Abstract

An improved lid for a portable beverage container, the lid including a storage compartment adapted for holding various personal items. The compartment, which includes a separate cover, further includes a water-tight feature, which prevents liquids, either from within the container, or outside of the container from contacting the items or contents within the compartment. The present lid is also configured for use with a variety of portable beverage containers.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A lid for a portable beverage container comprises:
 a base configured to removably couple with a container;   a storage compartment within the base, the storage compartment comprising a hinged cover, wherein the hinged cover has an open and a closed position, wherein when the lid is in the closed position on the storage compartment, the lid is configured to provide a water-tight seal to prevent fluids from entering the storage compartment; and   an access port within the base opposing the compartment in communication with the container and configured to allow the removal of fluid from within the container.   
     
     
         2 . The lid of  claim 1  wherein the base has a thread, wherein the thread is configured to engage a thread on the container. 
     
     
         3 . The lid of  claim 1  wherein the base comprises a friction seal, wherein the friction seal is configured to engage the container. 
     
     
         4 . The lid of  claim 1  wherein the cover comprises a protrusion disposed around a bottom surface of the cover, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage an upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment. 
     
     
         5 . The lid of  claim 4  wherein the protrusion comprises an O-ring extending around the bottom surface of the cover. 
     
     
         6 . The lid of  claim 4  wherein the protrusion is made from an elastomeric material. 
     
     
         7 . The lid of  claim 4  wherein the upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment comprises a lip, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage the lip on the top of the storage compartment. 
     
     
         8 . The lid of  claim 4  wherein the upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment comprises a channel, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage the channel on the upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment. 
     
     
         9 . The lid of  claim 4  wherein the upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment is disposed around a periphery of the storage compartment. 
     
     
         10 . The lid of  claim 1  wherein the storage compartment comprises an upper surface perimeter, wherein the upper surface perimeter comprises a protrusion disposed around the upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage a bottom surface of the cover. 
     
     
         11 . The lid of  claim 10  wherein the protrusion comprises an O-ring extending around the upper surface perimeter of the storage compartment. 
     
     
         12 . The lid of  claim 10  wherein the protrusion is made from an elastomeric material. 
     
     
         13 . The lid of  claim 10  wherein the bottom surface of the cover comprises a lip, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage the lip on the bottom surface of the cover. 
     
     
         14 . The lid of  claim 10  wherein the bottom surface of the cover comprises a channel, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage the channel on the bottom surface of the cover. 
     
     
         15 . The lid of  claim 10  wherein the bottom surface of the cover is disposed around a periphery of the cover. 
     
     
         16 . The lid of  claim 1  wherein the cover comprises a handle extending from a side of the cover, and further wherein the lid comprises an engagement surface configured to accept the handle when the cover is in the closed position. 
     
     
         17 . The lid of  claim 16  wherein the handle comprises a first tab extending from a first side of the handle, wherein the engagement surface of the lid comprises a first recess, wherein the first recess is configured to engage the first tab extending from the first side of the handle when the cover is in the closed position. 
     
     
         18 . The lid of  claim 17  wherein the handle comprises a second tab extending from a second side of the handle, wherein the engagement surface of the lid comprises a second recess, wherein the second recess is configured to engage the second tab extending from the second surface of the handle when the cover is in the closed position. 
     
     
         19 . The lid of  claim 1  wherein the access port is sized to receive a straw therethrough for accessing fluid within the container. 
     
     
         20 . A system of for a portable beverage container comprising:
 the lid of  claim 1 ; and   a container configured to hold fluids therein, the container engaged to the lid of  claim 1 .
