Abstract
A tablet composition is provided that comprises a core encapsulated by a coating. The core comprises at least one metal chlorite and an effervescent agent dispersed in a composite matrix, and the coating comprises an acid source. The tablet composition can producing chlorine dioxide upon contacting with water, where the chlorine dioxide is retained in the water for an extended period to provide prolonged disinfecting effects. Compositions in powder form are also provided.

A composition comprising at least one metal chlorite, one or more desiccant(s), one or more stabilizers(s), one or more demolding agent(s), one or more low solubility amorphous material(s), one or more binder(s), one or more effervescent agent(s), and one or more acid source(s).

The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a tablet composition comprising a core encapsulated by a coating, wherein the core comprises the at least one metal chlorite and the one or more effervescent agent(s) dispersed in a composite matrix, and the coating comprises the one or more acid source(s).
3 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal chlorite is selected from alkali metal chlorites, alkaline earth metal chlorites, and combinations thereof.
4 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal chlorite is selected from sodium chlorite, potassium chlorite, barium chlorite, calcium chlorite, magnesium chlorite, and combinations thereof.

The composition of claim 2 , wherein the at least one metal chlorite comprises from about 10 wt % to about 90 wt % of the total weight of the core, the one or more binder(s), comprise from about 1 wt % to about 20 wt %, of the total weight of the core, and the one or more effervescent agent(s) comprises from about 1 wt % to about 15 wt %, of the total weight of the core and the one or more acid source(s) comprises from about 50 wt % to about 100 wt % of the coating.
7 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more binder(s) is selected from polysulfones, polyamides, polyvinylpyrrolidones, polycarbonates, polyacrylonitriles, sodium alginate and combinations thereof.
8 . The composition of claim 7 , wherein the one or more binder(s) is selected from polyamide:polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethersulfone:polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and combinations thereof.

11 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more effervescent agent(s) is selected from anhydrous perborates, water-soluble bicarbonates, percarbonates, and combinations thereof.
12 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more effervescent agent(s) is selected from sodium perborate, calcium perborate, ammonium perborate, magnesium perborate, potassium perborate, alkali metal bicarbonate, alkali metal percarbonate, and combinations thereof.
13 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one metal chlorite is sodium chlorite, the one or more binder(s) comprises sodium alginate, the one or more acid source(s) is sodium bisulfate and the one or more effervescent agent(s) is sodium percarbonate.

The composition of claim 2 , wherein the one or more dessicant(s) is in the core and one or more dessicant(s) is selected from calcium oxide, magnesium sulfate, sodium phosphate di-basic, ammonium chloride, potassium carbonate, potassium aluminum disulfate, magnesium chloride, diammonium sulfate, sodium nitrate, calcium chloride, calcium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium bromide, clay and combinations thereof.

17 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more acid source(s) is selected from inorganic acid salts, salts comprising an anion of a strong acid and a cation of a weak base, water soluble solid acids, and combinations thereof.
18 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more acid source(s) is selected from aluminum chloride, aluminum nitrate, cerium nitrate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, magnesium nitrate, lithium chloride, magnesium sulfate, aluminum sulfate, iron sulfate, and combinations thereof.
19 . The composition of claim 17 , wherein the water soluble solid acid is selected from boric acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, and combinations thereof.
20 . The composition of claim 1 , wherein the one or more acid source(s) is selected from sodium bisulfate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, potassium acid sulfate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and combinations thereof.
