Abstract
A surgical instrument having a first assembly with a first radio-opaque portion providing a profile of a first portion of an intramedullary implant or canal in a bone, and a second assembly having a second radio-opaque portion providing a profile of a second portion of the intramedullary implant or canal. The surgical instrument may also include a third radio-opaque portion providing an alignment feature to provide a fluoroscopic planar check for the surgical instrument.

21 . An instrument, comprising:
a radiolucent body; a first set of radio-opaque members disposed in the radiolucent body, a first member of the first set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a respective second end, and a second member of the first set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, the first and second members being substantially parallel, such that the first set of radio-opaque members collectively define a first profile corresponding to an outline shape of a first portion of an orthopedic implant over which the instrument is positioned; and a second set of radio-opaque members disposed in the radiolucent body, a first member of the second set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, and a second member of the second set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a respective second end, such that the second set of radio-opaque members collectively define a second profile corresponding to an outline shape of a second portion of the orthopedic implant.
22 . The instrument of claim 21 , further comprising a third set of radio-opaque members disposed in the radiolucent body, the third set of radio-opaque members collectively defining an alignment feature of the instrument.
23 . The instrument of claim 22 , wherein the third set of radio-opaque members includes a peg and a ring, and wherein the ring circumscribes the peg when the instrument is properly aligned with a first anatomic viewing plane.
24 . An apparatus, comprising:
a first module, comprising: a first radiolucent body; a first set of radio-opaque members disposed in the first radiolucent body, a first member of the first set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, and a second member of the first set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, such that the first set of radio-opaque members collectively define a first profile corresponding to an outline shape of a first portion of an orthopedic implant over which the instrument is positioned in a first plane; and a second module coupled to the first module, the second module comprising: a second radiolucent body; a second set of radio-opaque members disposed in the second radiolucent body, a first member of the second set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, and a second member of the second set of radio-opaque member extending from a first end to a second end s, such that the second set of radio-opaque members collectively define a second profile corresponding to an outline shape of the first portion of the orthopedic implant in a second plane, and wherein the first plane and the second plane are non-parallel.
25 . The apparatus of claim 24 , wherein the first plane and the second plane are orthogonal.
26 . The apparatus of claim 25 , wherein the first module further comprises a third set of radio-opaque members disposed in the first radiolucent body, a first member of the third set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, and a second member of the third set of radio-opaque members extending from a first end to a second end, such that the third set of radio-opaque members collectively define a third profile corresponding to an outline shape of a second portion of the orthopedic implant, wherein the second portion differs from the first portion.
27 . The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein the first module further comprises one or more lateral segments that are configured to couple the first module to the second module.
28 . The apparatus of claim 25 , wherein the first module further comprises a third set of radio-opaque members disposed in the radiolucent body, the third set of radio-opaque members collectively defining an alignment feature of the apparatus.
29 . The apparatus of claim 28 , wherein the third set of radio-opaque members includes a peg and a ring.
30 . The apparatus of claim 29 , wherein the ring circumscribes the peg when the first module is properly aligned with a first anatomic viewing plane.
31 . The instrument of claim 29 , wherein the second module further comprises a fourth set of radio-opaque members including a second peg and a second ring, and wherein the second ring circumscribes the second peg when the second module is properly aligned with a second anatomic viewing plane.
32 . The instrument of claim 25 , wherein the first and second members are parallel.
