Towbar with a hitch adaptor system

Abstract

A towbar with a hitch adaptor system incorporating a detachable receiving member and a detachable hitch ball is shown and described. The towbar with a hitch adaptor system may include a linkage member, a connecting member, a coupler and a receiver member. The receiver member may also include a detachable receiving hitch and a detachable hitch ball.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A hitch adaptor system comprising:
 a linkage member;   a detachable receiving device, the detachable receiving device comprising a detachable receiving member; and   a connecting member operatively connected to both the linkage member and the detachable receiving device.   
     
     
         2 . The hitch adaptor system of  claim 1 , wherein the linkage member is removably attachable to a towbar of a vehicle via a set of at least two plates and wherein the connecting member is permanently fastened to the linkage member via at least one weld. 
     
     
         3 . The hitch adaptor system of  claim 1 , wherein the detachable receiving member is configured to accept a hitch accessory. 
     
     
         4 . The hitch adapter system of  claim 3 , wherein the hitch accessory is attached to the detachable receiving member with a hitch pin assembly that extends through apertures in the detachable receiving member and the hitch accessory. 
     
     
         5 . The hitch adapter system of  claim 3 , wherein the hitch pin assembly comprises a hitch pin, a hitch pin nut and a hitch pin clip. 
     
     
         6 . The hitch adapter system of  claim 5 , wherein the hitch pin comprises at least one radial protrusion positioned along a perimeter of a pin body. 
     
     
         7 . The hitch adapter system of  claim 6 , wherein the at least one radial protrusion comprises a pair of radial protrusions wherein the radial protrusions are along opposite sides of the hitch pin. 
     
     
         8 . The hitch adapter of  claim 6 , wherein the apertures of the detachable receiving member comprise a pair of key slot apertures. 
     
     
         9 . The hitch adapter of  claim 8 , wherein the protrusions align with the key slot apertures. 
     
     
         10 . The hitch adapter of  claim 6 , wherein the pin body comprises threads positioned along a distal end to receive a hitch pin nut. 
     
     
         11 . The hitch adapter of  claim 10 , wherein the pin body comprises a thru aperture to receive a hitch pin clip. 
     
     
         12 . The hitch adapter of  claim 4 , wherein the hitch pin assembly comprises a pin head having a recess formed along opposing sides of the pin head. 
     
     
         13 . A hitch adaptor system comprising:
 a linkage member;   a detachable receiving member;   a connecting member, the connecting member being operatively connected to the linkage member; and   a coupler, the coupler being operative connected to both the connecting member and the detachable receiving member.   
     
     
         14 . The hitch adaptor system of  claim 13 , wherein the coupler is removably fastened to the detachable receiving member. 
     
     
         15 . The hitch adaptor system of  claim 13 , wherein the coupler further comprises a locking member to permit locking of the coupler to the connecting member. 
     
     
         16 . The hitch adaptor system of  claim 13 , wherein the detachable receiving member is configured to accept a hitch accessory. 
     
     
         17 . The hitch adapter system of  claim 16 , wherein the hitch accessory is attached to the detachable receiving member with a hitch pin assembly that extends through apertures in the detachable receiving member and the hitch accessory. 
     
     
         18 . A hitch adaptor system comprising:
 a linkage member, the linkage member being capable of being operatively secured to a towbar;   a receiving member;   a connecting member operatively connected to the linkage member; and   a coupler operatively connected to both the connecting member and the receiving member.   
     
     
         19 . The hitch adaptor system of  claim 18 , wherein the receiving member is configured to accept a hitch accessory. 
     
     
         20 . The hitch adapter system of  claim 19 , wherein the hitch accessory is attached to the receiving member with a hitch pin assembly that extends through apertures in the receiving member and the hitch accessory.
