Abstract

Antimicrobial compositions providing synergistic antimicrobial effects against a variety of bacterial, viral and fungal organisms are described. Methods for using the antimicrobial compositions and products containing the antimicrobial compositions are also described herein.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 16 . (canceled)

17 . A method of protecting a surface against exposure to pathogenic microorganisms, the method comprising applying a disinfectant product to a surface, the disinfectant product comprising an antimicrobial composition comprising:
 a) ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) or salts thereof; b) a straight chain 1,2-alkanediol, wherein the straight chain 1,2-alkanediol is selected from the group consisting of 1,2-pentanediol or 1,2-hexanediol; c) a surfactant; d) a biocidal terpenoid; and e) the balance being water; and
wherein the composition has an immediate effectiveness and prolonged persistence against a pathogenic microorganism such that the composition is at least 99.9999% effective against a pathogenic microorganism after 10 minutes of exposure and remains at least 99.9999% effective against the pathogenic microorganism for 5 days or longer.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the pathogenic microorganism is a bacteria, virus or fungi.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the composition exhibits antimicrobial and bactericidal efficacy against the pathogenic microorganism.

20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the pathogenic microorganism is a bacteria, wherein the bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus.

21 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the composition remains at least 99.9999% effective against the pathogenic microorganism for up to 12 days after being applied to the surface.

22 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.2% to about 3%, by weight per volume, of EDTA.

23 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the composition comprises from about 1% to about 5%, by volume per volume, of the straight chain 1,2-alkanediol.

24 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the composition comprises from about 0.01% to about 2%, by weight per volume, of the surfactant.

25 . The method of claim 17 , wherein surfactant is sodium dodecyl sulfate.

26 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the composition from about 0.05% to about 0.5%, by weight per volume, of the biocidal terpenoid.

27 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the biocidal terpenoid is selected from the group consisting of thymol, carvacrol, eugenol, and limonene.
