Abstract

A method of generating an augmented reality LENS comprises: causing to display a list of LENS categories on a display screen of a client device; receiving a user choice from the displayed list; causing to prepopulate a LENS features display on the display device based on the user choice, wherein each LENS feature comprises image transformation data configured to modify or overlay video or image data; receiving a user selection of a LENS feature from the prepopulated LENS display; receiving a trigger selection that activates the LENS feature to complete the LENS; saving the completed LENS to a memory of a computer device; generating a variant of the completed LENS; and deploying the variant of the completed LENS and the completed LENS to a messaging system to generate messages.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented method of generating an augmented reality application, comprising:
 causing, by a processor, display of a list of augmented reality application categories on a display screen of a client device;   receiving, by the processor, a selection of a category from the displayed list of augmented reality application categories;   prepopulating, by the processor, augmented reality application features on the display screen of the client device based on the selection of the category, wherein each application feature comprises image transformation data configured to modify or overlay video or image data;   receiving, at the processor, selection of an augmented reality application feature from the prepopulated augmented reality application features, the augmented reality application feature including detecting an object that is a body part comprising at least one element by calculating element characteristic points for each element of the object, overlaying an image over the object, tracking the object;   saving, by the processor, an augmented reality application comprising the selected augmented reality application feature to a memory of the client device; and   deploying, by the processor, the augmented reality application to a messaging system to generate messages.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising generating a variant of the deployed augmented reality application and deploying the variant to the messaging system. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising measuring, by the processor, metrics of the deployed augmented reality application in the messaging system and adjusting deployment accordingly. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the metrics comprise user selection of the deployed application. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein generating the variant comprises changing a face effect in the augmented reality application. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein generating the variant comprises adjusting color tint in the augmented reality application. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein generating the variant comprises swapping a three-dimensional (3D) asset with a different 3D asset from a same category in the augmented reality application. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein generating the variant comprises changing an augmented reality application feature based on past performance of augmented reality application features in past augmented reality applications associated with a user of the client device. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the generated messages are ephemeral messages each having a message duration parameter and wherein the method further comprises deleting, by the processor, the generated messages using the augmented reality application and the variant of the application once a message duration from transmission is reached as specified by the parameter. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising generating a plurality of variants of the deployed augment reality application and deploying the variants singly over time to the messaging system. 
     
     
         11 . A system for generating an augmented reality application, comprising:
 one or more processors of a machine;   a memory storing instruction that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:   causing, by the one or more processors, display of a list of augmented reality application categories on a display screen of a client device;   receiving, by the one or more processors, a selection of a category from the displayed list of augmented reality application categories;   prepopulating, by the one or more processors, augmented reality application features on the display screen of the client device based on the selection of the category, wherein each application feature comprises image transformation data configured to modify or overlay video or image data;   receiving, at the one or more processors, selection of an augmented reality application feature from the prepopulated augmented reality application features, the augmented reality application feature including detecting an object that is a body part comprising at least one element by calculating element characteristic points for each element of the object, overlaying an image over the object, tracking the object;   saving, by the one or more processors, an augmented reality application comprising the selected augmented reality application feature to a memory of the client device; and   deploying by the one or more processors, the augmented reality application to a messaging system to generate messages.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise generating a variant of the deployed augment reality application and deploying the variant to the messaging system. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the operations further comprise measuring, with the one or more processors, metrics of the deployed augmented reality applications in the messaging system and adjusting deployment accordingly. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the metrics comprise user selection of the deployed applications. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the generated messages are ephemeral messages each having a message duration parameter and wherein the operations further cause the one or more processors to delete the generated messages made with the augmented reality application and the variant of the augmented reality application once a message duration from transmission is reached as specified by the parameter. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the generating the variant comprises changing a face effect in the application. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the generating the variant comprises adjusting color tint in the application. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the generating the variant comprises swapping a 3D asset to a different 3D asset from a same category in the application. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the generating the variant comprises changing an augmented reality application feature based on past performance of augmented reality application features in past augmented reality applications of the user. 
     
     
         20 . A machine-readable storage device embodying instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
 causing, by a processor of the machine, display of a list of augmented reality application categories on a display screen of a client device;   receiving, by the processor, a selection of a category from the displayed list of augmented reality application categories;   prepopulating, by the processor, augmented reality application features on the display screen of the client device based on the selection of the category, wherein each application feature comprises image transformation data configured to modify or overlay video or image data;   receiving, at the processor, selection of an augmented reality application feature from the prepopulated augmented reality application features, the augmented reality application feature including detecting an object that is a body part comprising at least one element by calculating element characteristic points for each element of the object, overlaying an image over the object, tracking the object;   saving, by the processor, an augmented reality application comprising the selected augmented reality application feature to a memory of the client device; and
 deploying, by the processor, the augmented reality application to a messaging system to generate messages.
