Abstract
Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that determines the tactile attributes (e.g., an amount of pressure applied by a user, a length of time pressure is applied by a user, a velocity of the user input, etc.) associated with a received user input and determines which media guidance function, of a plurality of media guidance functions, is associated with the tactile attributes.

51 . A method comprising:
receiving user selection of a media asset; generating for presentation the media asset; receiving, while the media asset is generated for presentation, user input to perform an action associated with a skip forward or skip backward operation; determining a velocity associated with the user input; and performing the action at a rate that is based on the determined velocity.
52 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the action comprises skipping a number of frames of the media asset, and the number of frames to be skipped is based on the rate.
53 . The method of claim 51 , wherein the user input comprises a swipe of a user interface.
54 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the user interface comprises a touch screen of a mobile device.
55 . The method of claim 53 , further comprising:
while performing the action, determining that an additional user input is being received; determining a velocity at which the additional user input is received; and adjusting the rate at which the action is performed based on the velocity associated with the additional user input.
56 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the action continues to be performed after contact with the user interface ceases.
57 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the action ceases to be performed after contact with the user interface ceases.
58 . The method of claim 53 , further comprising:
determining a direction of the swipe; wherein the action comprises the skip forward operation when the direction is a first direction, and the action comprises the skip backward operation when the direction is the second direction.
59 . The method of claim 58 , wherein the first direction opposes the second direction.
60 . The method of claim 58 , wherein:
determining the velocity associated with the user input comprises determining whether the velocity exceeds a threshold; and performing the action comprises:
skipping to an end of the media asset, in response to determining the velocity exceeds the threshold and the direction is the first direction; or
skipping to a beginning of the media asset, in response to determining the velocity exceeds the threshold and the direction is the second direction.
61 . A system comprising:
control circuitry configured to:
receive user selection of a media asset;
generate for presentation the media asset;
receive, while the media asset is generated for presentation, user input to perform an action associated with a skip forward or skip backward operation;
determine a velocity associated with the user input; and perform the action at a rate that is based on the determined velocity.
62 . The system of claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to perform the action by skipping a number of frames of the media asset, and the number of frames to be skipped is based on the rate.
63 . The system of claim 61 , further comprising:
a user interface; wherein the user input comprises a swipe of the user interface.
64 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the user interface comprises a touch screen of a mobile device.
65 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
while performing the action, determine that an additional user input is being received; determine a velocity at which the additional user input is received; and adjust the rate at which the action is performed based on the velocity associated with the additional user input.
66 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the action continues to be performed after contact with the user interface ceases.
67 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the action ceases to be performed after contact with the user interface ceases.
68 . The system of claim 63 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
determine a direction of the swipe; wherein the action comprises the skip forward operation when the direction is a first direction, and the action comprises the skip backward operation when the direction is the second direction.
69 . The system of claim 68 , wherein the first direction opposes the second direction.
70 . The system of claim 68 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
determine the velocity associated with the user input comprises determining whether the velocity exceeds a threshold; and perform the action by:
skipping to an end of the media asset, in response to determining the velocity exceeds the threshold and the direction is the first direction; or
