Method for inducing angiogenesis

Abstract

Disclosed herewith is a method for inducing angiogenesis using modified placental tissue or an extract thereof to treat conditions other than cardiovascular conditions.

A method for inducing angiogenesis in a non-cardiovascular body region of a subject in need thereof comprising delivering an effective amount of a composition comprising placental growth factors and/or stem cells extracted from placental tissue to said non-cardiovascular body region.

         27 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the placental growth factors and/or stem cells are extracted from one or more of isolated amnion, isolated chorion, intermediate tissue, Wharton's jelly, isolated amniotic epithelial layer, or any combination thereof.

         29 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the composition is a liquid, gel, or paste.

         33 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein blood flow to the non-cardiovascular body region is restricted. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 33 , wherein the blood flow to the non-cardiovascular body region is restricted due to injury or disease. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the non-cardiovascular body region comprises a peripheral portion of the body, liver, lung, nerve, bone, or skin. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 35 , wherein the peripheral portion of the body is selected from the group consisting of limbs, hands, and feet. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the subject has or is at risk of developing peripheral neuropathy, cirrhosis, a pulmonary condition, or other non-cardiovascular condition. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the pulmonary condition is selected from the group consisting of cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the other non-cardiovascular conditions comprise bone necrosis, ischemia, organ injury, tissue injury, or a chronic wound. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 39 , wherein the ischemia is limb ischemia. 
     
     
         41 . The method of  claim 39 , wherein the chronic wounds are associated with systemic disease. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 41 , wherein the systemic disease is selected from the group consisting of diabase and non-cardiovascular atherosclerosis.
