Compositions for treating or preventing vasomotor symptoms

Abstract

The present disclosure is directed to compositions and methods for treating or preventing vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes, comprising a Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 (TRPM8) antagonist and administering a TRPM8 antagonist, respectively.

         37 . A method for treating or preventing one or more vasomotor symptoms in a subject in need thereof comprising:
 administering to the subject an effective amount of a Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 (TRPM8) antagonist, wherein the subject is a human subject.   
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the human subject is a menopausal woman. 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 38 , wherein the human subject is a perimenopausal woman. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 38 , wherein the human subject is a postmenopausal woman. 
     
     
         41 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the human subject is a cancer patient. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the human subject is undergoing or has undergone treatment for cancer. 
     
     
         43 . The method of  claim 42 , wherein the treatment for cancer is gonadal ablative therapy or gonadal hormonal suppressive therapies. 
     
     
         44 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the human subject has undergone surgery. 
     
     
         45 . The method of  claim 44 , wherein the surgery is hysterectomy, oophorectomy, or orchiectomy. 
     
     
         46 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the one or more vasomotor symptoms are hot flashes. 
     
     
         47 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the one or more vasomotor symptoms are night sweats. 
     
     
         48 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the TRPM8 antagonist is administered upon the onset of the one or more vasomotor symptoms. 
     
     
         49 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the TRPM8 antagonist is administered daily. 
     
     
         50 . The method of  claim 49 , wherein the TRPM8 antagonist is administered once daily. 
     
     
         51 . The method of  claim 49 , wherein the TRPM8 antagonist is administered twice daily. 
     
     
         52 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the administration to the human subject of an effective amount of the TRPM8 antagonist decreases the human subject's core body temperature by about 0.5° C. to about 2° C. 
     
     
         53 . The method of  claim 37 , wherein the TRPM8 antagonist is administered with an additional active agent.
