System and methods for feedback-based data transmission
Abstract
A computer-implemented method includes receiving a feedback message from a receiver of image data. The feedback message includes a reference frame identifier associated with a reference frame correctly received or decoded by the receiver. The method further includes determining a difference between the reference frame identifier and a current frame identifier. The current frame identifier is associated with a current frame to be encoded and the difference indicates a number of frames between the reference frame and the current frame. The method also includes encoding the current frame based at least in part on the difference.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
transmitting the encoded current frame to the receiver.
7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
packaging the encoded current frame with metadata prior to transmitting the encoded current frame to the receiver.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the metadata comprises at least one of an identifier of the current frame, a type of the encoded current frame, a reference frame offset, a timestamp, a frame rate, a data rate, a resolution, verification data, or an error-detection code.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the feedback message further comprises a status indicator indicating a receiving status, a transmission status, or a decoding status with respect to the image data, or indicating a malfunction of a hardware or software component of the receiver.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the encoding of the current frame comprises:
selecting a coding mode from a plurality of coding modes based at least in part on the status indicator.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the encoding of the current frame comprises interframe encoding the current frame using the reference frame.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the feedback message further comprises a timestamp associated with generation or transmission of the feedback message, an interval at which adjacent feedback messages are being sent, or synchronization information for data transmission.
13 . A computer system, comprising:
a memory that stores one or more computer-executable instructions; and one or more processors configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to perform a method comprising: receiving, from a receiver of image data, a feedback message comprising a reference frame identifier, the reference frame identifier being associated with a reference frame correctly received or decoded by the receiver; determining a difference between the reference frame identifier and a current frame identifier, the current frame identifier being associated with a current frame to be encoded and the difference indicating a number of frames between the reference frame and the current frame; and encoding the current frame based at least in part on the difference.
14 . The computer system of claim 13 , wherein the encoding of the current frame comprises:
encoding the current frame based at least in part on a comparison between the difference and a predetermined threshold, wherein the predetermined threshold is equal to or greater than a number of frames between adjacent feedback messages indicating an interval between the adjacent feedback messages.
15 . The computer system of claim 14 , wherein the encoding of the current frame further comprises:
selecting a coding mode from a plurality of coding modes based at least in part on the comparison, the plurality of coding modes comprising an intraframe coding mode, a short-term interframe coding mode, and a long-term interframe coding mode.
16 . The computer system of claim 14 , wherein the encoding of the current frame further comprises:
selecting a short-term interframe coding mode to encode the current frame in response to the difference being less than the predetermined threshold; or selecting a long-term interframe coding mode or an intraframe coding mode to encode the current frame in response to the difference being greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold.
17 . The computer system of claim 13 , wherein the method further comprises:
packaging the encoded current frame with metadata, wherein the metadata comprises at least one of an identifier of the current frame, a type of the encoded current frame, a reference frame offset, a timestamp, a frame rate, a data rate, a resolution, verification data, or an error-detection code; and transmitting the packaged encoded current frame to the receiver.
18 . The computer system of claim 13 , wherein the feedback message further comprises a status indicator indicating a receiving status, a transmission status, or a decoding status with respect to the image data, or indicating a malfunction of a hardware or software component of the receiver.
19 . The computer system of claim 18 , wherein the encoding of the current frame comprises:
selecting a coding mode from a plurality of coding modes based at least in part on the status indicator.
