Abstract

Provided, inter alia, are methods for treating an epilepsy disorder using a 5HT receptor agonist, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

         59 . A method of treating an epilepsy disorder, said method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a 5HT receptor agonist, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein said epilepsy disorder is Dravet Syndrome and wherein the 5HT receptor agonist is a small molecule which agonizes a 5-HT 2C  receptor and is suitable for the treatment of obesity. 
     
     
         60 . The method of  claim 59 , wherein said small molecule is lorcaserin. 
     
     
         61 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein the subject in need of treatment for epilepsy suffers from a cardiovascular disease or has a ketogenic diet. 
     
     
         62 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein said subject is resistant to treatment with a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. 
     
     
         63 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein said subject is susceptible to side effects when administered a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. 
     
     
         64 . The method of  claim 63 , wherein said serotonin reuptake inhibitor is fenfluramine. 
     
     
         65 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein said administration of said 5HT receptor agonist reduces or prevents myoclonus seizures or status epilepticus in said subject when compared to the absence of 5HT receptor agonist. 
     
     
         66 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein said administration of said 5HT receptor agonist inhibits compulsive behavior or reduces the incidence of unprovoked seizures in said subject when compared to the absence of said 5HT receptor agonist. 
     
     
         67 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein said 5HT receptor agonist is co-administered with an anti-epileptic drug (AED) or is an adjunctive therapy with an anti-epileptic drug (AED). 
     
     
         68 . The method of  claim 67 , wherein said AED is acetazolamide, benzodiazepine, cannabadiol, carbamazepine, clobazam, clonazepam, eslicarbazepine acetate, ethosuximide, ethotoin, felbamate, fenfluramine, fosphenytoin, gabapentin, ganaxolone, huperzine A, lacosamide, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, nitrazepam, oxcarbazepine, perampanel, piracetam, phenobarbital, phenytoin, potassium bromide, pregabalin, primidone, retigabine, rufinamide, valproic acid, sodium valproate, stiripentol, tiagabine, topiramate, vigabatrin, or zonisamide. 
     
     
         69 . The method of  claim 67 , wherein said AED is administered simultaneously with or sequentially to said 5HT receptor agonist. 
     
     
         70 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein said 5HT receptor agonist is administered to said subject at an amount of about 0.1 mg to about 1000 mg per kg body weight. 
     
     
         71 . A method of treating an epilepsy disorder, said method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a 5HT receptor agonist, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and an antiepileptic drug (AED), wherein the 5HT receptor agonist is lorcaserin, and wherein said epilepsy disorder is Dravet Syndrome. 
     
     
         72 . A method of treating an epilepsy disorder, said method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a 5HT receptor agonist, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the 5HT receptor agonist is lorcaserin, and wherein said epilepsy disorder is Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. 
     
     
         73 . A method of treating an epilepsy disorder, said method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of a 5HT receptor agonist, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and an antiepileptic drug (AED), wherein the 5HT receptor agonist is lorcaserin, and wherein said epilepsy disorder is Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. 
     
     
         74 . The method of  claim 71 , wherein said subject has a cardiovascular disease. 
     
     
         75 . The method of  claim 71 , wherein said subject is resistant to treatment with a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. 
     
     
         76 . The method of  claim 71 , wherein said subject is susceptible to side effects when administered a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. 
     
     
         77 . The method of  claim 72 , wherein said subject has a cardiovascular disease. 
     
     
         78 . The method of  claim 72 , wherein said subject is resistant to treatment with a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. 
     
     
         79 . The method of  claim 72 , wherein said subject is susceptible to side effects when administered a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. 
     
     
         80 . The method of  claim 73 , wherein said subject has a cardiovascular disease.
