Abstract

A medical device comprises a catheter and an aspiration pump. The catheter has a hybrid reinforcement to improve performance characteristics. The aspiration pump is cycled to improve aspiration efficacy.

         15 . A method for aspirating blood clots from inside a blood vessel of a patient, comprising:
 introducing an aspiration catheter to a location inside a blood vessel where blood clots are found;   attaching a liquid aspiration pump having a cycling rotating motor to a proximal end of the aspiration catheter, wherein the cycling rotating motor causes the aspiration of the pump to continuously change up and down;   activating the liquid aspiration pump and generating a pulsating effect on the blood clots to be aspirated; and   aspirating the blood clots outside the blood vessel.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , further including providing the aspiration catheter with a distal end, a proximal end, and at least one lumen. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , further including providing the aspiration catheter with an inner lumen having an inner diameter and an outer lumen having an outer diameter, and wherein the ratio of the inner lumen diameter to the outer lumen diameter is more than 0.080. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the liquid aspiration pump is powered by one of the following: line power, battery, or combination of both. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the rotating motor rotates the liquid aspiration pump at a speed below 2000 RPM. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the speed of the rotating motor is cycled at a frequency below 10 Hz. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the speed of the rotating motor is cycled at a frequency below 10 Hz. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 15 , further including attaching the liquid aspiration pump to a proximal end of the aspiration catheter via a tube. 
     
     
         23 . A method for aspirating blood clots from inside a blood vessel of a patient, comprising:
 introducing an aspiration catheter with an attached liquid aspiration pump to a proximal end of the aspiration catheter to a location inside a blood vessel where blood clots are found, wherein the liquid aspiration pump has a cycling rotating motor causing the aspiration pump to continuously change up and down;   activating the liquid aspiration pump and generating a pulsating effect on the blood clots to be aspirated; and   aspirating the blood clots outside the blood vessel.
