Visor assembly

Abstract

A visor assembly that is configured to be secured to a tactical helmet wherein the visor assembly includes a visor operable to shield a face of a wearer of the tactical helmet. The visor assembly include a visor body wherein the visor body includes a front end and a rear end. The visor body has a shape that is defined by perimeter edges wherein the perimeter edges are contiguous. The visor body has integrally formed therein a central attachment member. The central attachment member includes elements that provide releasable securing of the visor body to the helmet. In a preferred embodiment, a mounting shroud is present on the helmet and wherein the mounting shroud is configured to engage elements on the central attachment member so as to facilitate the operable coupling of the visor body to the mounting shroud.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A visor assembly that is configured to be releasably secured to a helmet wherein the visor assembly comprises:
 a visor body, said visor body having an upper surface and a lower surface, said visor body having a front end and a rear end, said visor body having at least one perimeter edge configured to define a shape of the visor body, said visor body having a central attachment member, said central attachment member being contiguously formed with said visor body; and   wherein said central attachment member is configured to releasably secure to a portion of the helmet so as to provide securing of the visor assembly.   
     
     
         2 . The visor assembly as recited in  claim 1 , wherein said central attachment member further includes a keeper, said keeper being configured to facilitate releasable securing of the visor body to the helmet. 
     
     
         3 . The visor assembly as recited in  claim 2 , wherein said central attachment member extends between said front end of said visor body and said rear end of said body. 
     
     
         4 . The visor assembly as recited in  claim 3 , wherein said central attachment member is centrally located on said visor body. 
     
     
         5 . A visor assembly that is configured to be releasably secured to a helmet so as to shield a face of a wearer of the helmet wherein the visor assembly comprises:
 a visor body, said visor body having an upper surface and a lower surface, said visor body having a front end and a rear end, said visor body having a left perimeter edge, a right perimeter edge and a front perimeter edge being contiguously formed so as to define a shape of the visor body;   a central attachment member, said central attachment member being contiguously formed with said visor body, said central attachment member having a first end and a second end; said second end of said central attachment member being configured to releasably secure the visor body to the helmet.   
     
     
         6 . The visor assembly as recited in  claim 5 , and further including a mounting shroud, said mounting shroud being operably secured to a front area of the helmet.

The visor assembly as recited in  claim 6 , wherein the central attachment member further includes a first lip member and a second lip member, said first lip member and said second lip member being perpendicular to said central attachment member, said first lip member and said second lip member being operable to engage a portion of the mounting shroud. 
     
     
         8 . The visor assembly as recited in  claim 7 , wherein the mounting shroud includes a first recess and a second recess, said first recess and said second recess configured to receive a portion of said first lip member and said second lip member therein. 
     
     
         9 . The visor assembly as recited in  claim 8 , wherein said central attachment member is movable in an inwards and outwards direction upon subjection to pressure so as to facilitate engagement of the first lip member and second lip member with the first recess and second recess. 
     
     
         10 . A visor assembly that is configured to be releasably secured to a helmet so as to shield a face of a wearer of the helmet wherein the visor assembly comprises:
 a visor body, said visor body having an upper surface and a lower surface, said visor body having a front end and a rear end, said visor body having a left perimeter edge, a right perimeter edge and a front perimeter edge being contiguously formed so as to define a shape of the visor body;   a mounting shroud, said mounting shroud being operably secured to a front area of the helmet, said mounting shroud having a central portion, said central portion having a first recess and a second recess, said first recess and said second recess being opposedly located on said central portion of said mounting shroud;   a central attachment member, said central attachment member being contiguously formed with said visor body, said central attachment member having a first end and a second end; wherein the central attachment member further includes a first lip member and a second lip member, said first lip member and said second lip member being perpendicular to said central attachment member, said first lip member and said second lip member being operable to engage said first recess and said second recess of said central portion of said central attachment member.
