High definition television signal compatibility verification
Abstract
A system for providing television (TV) service including high definition television (HDTV) service, and for providing verification that a subscriber has connected an HDTV to the system includes a TV service provider headend and a set top box (STB). The HDTV may have an HDTV digital video interface (DVI) interconnect. The STB may be electrically coupled to the headend and have an STB DVI interconnect. When the HDTV DVI interconnect is initially electrically coupled to the STB DVI interconnect, the HDTV generally presents a data signal to the STB and the STB generally presents the data signal to the headend.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 20 . (canceled)
21 . A method for providing video content, the method comprising:
receiving a signal indicative of a display resolution of a display device; communicating information about the display resolution of the display device to a remote server; receiving the video content from the remote server in a format based on the display resolution; and causing to be displayed on the display device the video content in the format.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the format comprises a high-definition television (HDTV) format.
23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the display device comprises an HDTV television.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein signal comprises an indicator of at least one of a manufacturer of the display device or a model of the display device.
25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the signal comprises a type of the display device.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the signal comprises display capability parameters.
27 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
sending an instruction to interrogate the display device to determine the signal.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the receiving the signal is performed after the sending the instruction to interrogate the display device.
29 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
monitoring the display device for a change of the signal; and communicating information about the change of the signal of the display device to the remote server.
30 . The method of claim 29 , further comprising:
receiving video content from the remote server in another format based on the change of the signal; and causing to be displayed on the display device the video content in another format.
31 . A system for providing video content, the system comprising:
control circuitry configured to:
receive a signal indicative of a display resolution of a display device;
communicate information about the display resolution of the display device to a remote server;
receive the video content from the remote server in a format based on the display resolution; and
cause to be displayed on the display device the video content in the format.
32 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the format comprises a high-definition television (HDTV) format.
33 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the display device comprises an HDTV television.
34 . The system of claim 31 , wherein signal comprises an indicator of at least one of a manufacturer of the display device or a model of the display device.
35 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the signal comprises a type of the display device.
36 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the signal comprises display capability parameters.
37 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
send an instruction to interrogate the display device to determine the signal.
38 . The system of claim 37 , wherein the receiving the signal is performed after the sending the instruction to interrogate the display device.
39 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
monitor the display device for a change of the signal; and communicate information about the change of the signal of the display device to the remote server.
40 . The system of claim 39 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
receive video content from the remote server in another format based on the change of the signal; and cause to be displayed on the display device the video content in another format.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
