Systems and Methods for Automatic and Transparent Client Authentication and Online Transaction Verfication
Abstract
Systems and methods are described for providing fraud deterrents, detection and prevention during e-commerce, e-transactions, digital rights management and access control. Fraud deterrent levels may be automatically selected by a requesting transaction approval entity server (and can be related to level of risk, or security, related to fraud) or may be selected by a consumer. These deterrent levels can determine the manner in which the transaction occurs as well as the types of information that must be provided and validated for successful approval of the transaction. The client can associate their credit card with a specific device, an e-identity, such as an instant messaging identity, and the e-identity is contacted as a part of finalizing a payment transaction so that a client response of ‘approve’ or ‘reject’ can be obtained. The anti-fraud technology also provides for management and storage of historical transaction information. Entity-to-client communication occurs according to merchant permission parameters which are defined by the client and which enable messages sent by the entity to be automatically allowed, rejected, and managed in other ways as well.

1 . A method of screening transactions, the method comprising:
receiving, at a first computer, first data characterizing a first transaction; determining, by the computer, a first probability that the first transaction is fraudulent based on the first data; receiving, at the computer, second data characterizing a second transaction occurring in a period of time during which a chargeback for the first transaction can be received; determining, by the computer, a second probability that the first transaction is fraudulent based on the first probability and a time parameter of the first transaction; and determining, by the computer, a third probability that the second transaction is fraudulent based at least in part on the second data and the second probability.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the time parameter includes a time of day of the first transaction.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the time parameter includes a date of the first transaction.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the time parameter includes a date to bill the first transaction.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the time parameter includes a date to verify the first transaction.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first probability includes a parameter fraud rate for at least one parameter included in the first data.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second probability includes a probability of fraud based on one or more weighted parameter fraud weights.
8 . An apparatus for screening transactions, the apparatus comprising:
a processor; and a memory including instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to: receive first data characterizing a first transaction; determine a first probability that the first transaction is fraudulent based on the first data; receive second data characterizing a second transaction occurring in a period of time during which a chargeback for the first transaction can be received; determine a second probability that the first transaction is fraudulent based on the first probability and a time parameter of the first transaction; and determine a third probability that the second transaction is fraudulent based at least in part on the second data and the second probability.
9 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the time parameter includes a time of day of the first transaction.
10 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the time parameter includes a date of the first transaction.
11 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the time parameter includes a date to bill the first transaction.
12 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the time parameter includes a date to verify the first transaction.
13 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the first probability includes a parameter fraud rate for at least one parameter included in the first data.
14 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the second probability includes a probability of fraud based on one or more weighted parameter fraud weights.
15 . A system comprising:
one or more processors configured to: receive, from a first device, a login attempt to access an account, the login attempt including a username and password; determine a second device previously associated with the account, the second device previously validated as suitable for approving requests related to the account; instruct the second device to display a notification asking for approval of the login attempt, including a selectable option to at least approve the login attempt; receive a response from the second device, including indication of whether the selectable option for approval was selected; and responsive to receiving a response indicating that the selectable option for approval was selected, provide access to the account to the first device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
