Abstract

A fermentation tank is shown with an inlet for injecting at least one gaseous substrate into the tank, wherein the at least one gaseous substrate includes carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). One or more sensors may be included. Such sensors may be selected for determining gasses (such as CO 2 , methane, oxygen, etc.), nutrition, minerals, and/or pH. Active or static mixing devices may be included. The tank may be used in a method for improving biomass production and/or growth rate of a microorganism in a fermentation process such as shown and disclosed.

1 . A fermentation tank comprising an inlet for injecting at least one gaseous substrate into the fermentation tank, wherein the at least one gaseous substrate comprises carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). 
     
     
         2 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 1 , wherein the fermentation tank further comprises one or more mixing devices. 
     
     
         3 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 2 , wherein the one or more mixing devices is at least one of a static mixing device or an active mixing device. 
     
     
         4 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 1 , wherein the fermentation tank further comprises one or more sensor. 
     
     
         5 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 4 , wherein the one or more sensor is suitable for determining gasses including CO 2 , methane, or oxygen, or nutrition, or minerals, or pH. 
     
     
         6 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 4 , wherein the one or more sensor comprises a CO 2  sensor. 
     
     
         7 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 4 , wherein the one or more sensor comprises a sensor for determining dissolved CO 2 . 
     
     
         8 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 1 , wherein the fermentation tank is at least one of an airlift reactor, a loop-reactor, a U-shape reactor, or a stirred tank reactor. 
     
     
         9 . The fermentation tank according to  claim 1 , wherein the fermentation tank is a loop-reactor or a U-shape reactor.
