Abstract
A surgical apparatus of the present disclosure includes a wound retractor having a specimen bag attached thereto. Kits of the present disclosure include the surgical apparatus and a vacuum tube. In embodiments, the vacuum tube may be introduced into a lumen of the wound retractor. A vacuum source is attached to a proximal end portion of the vacuum tube to draw a vacuum through the vacuum tube, which in turn draws a tissue specimen into the lumen of the vacuum tube through an opening in the distal end portion of the vacuum tube. The vacuum tube, possessing the tissue specimen therein, may then be removed from the wound retractor. Methods for using the surgical apparatus and/or kits of the present disclosure are also provided.

21 . A kit comprising:
a wound retractor and specimen bag assembly including a wound retractor and a specimen bag, the wound retractor including:
a proximal ring;
a distal ring;
a film disposed between the proximal ring and the distal ring,
the specimen bag attached to the distal ring of the wound retractor;
a vacuum tube including a valve; and a vacuum source configured and dimensioned to communicate with the vacuum tube.
22 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the proximal ring of the wound retractor defines a circular opening and is deformable.
23 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the distal ring of the wound retractor defines a circular opening and is deformable.
24 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein a length of the film of the wound retractor between the proximal ring and the distal ring is adjustable.
25 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the specimen bag is attached to the distal ring of the wound retractor by a method selected from the group consisting of adhesive bonding, welding, heat-sealing, and combinations thereof.
26 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the wound retractor includes a tether.
27 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the vacuum tube includes a distal portion defining a generally circular opening, a narrower proximal portion defining a narrower, generally circular opening, and an elongate shaft defining a lumen between the distal portion and the narrower proximal portion.
28 . The kit of claim 21 , wherein the vacuum source is a syringe, a mechanical pump, a manually operated pump, or an electric vacuum pump.
29 . A kit comprising:
a wound retractor and specimen bag assembly including a wound retractor and the specimen bag, the wound retractor including a proximal ring, a distal ring, and a film disposed between the proximal ring and the distal ring, the specimen bag being attached to the distal ring of the wound retractor; a vacuum tube; and a vacuum source configured and dimensioned to communicate with the vacuum tube.
30 . The kit of claim 29 , wherein the proximal ring of the wound retractor defines a circular opening and is deformable.
31 . The kit of claim 29 , wherein the distal ring of the wound retractor defines a circular opening and is deformable.
32 . The kit of claim 29 , wherein a length of the film of the wound retractor between the proximal ring and the distal ring is adjustable.
33 . The kit of claim 29 , wherein the specimen bag is attached to the distal ring of the wound retractor by a method selected from the group consisting of adhesive bonding, welding, heat-sealing, and combinations thereof.
34 . The kit of claim 29 , wherein the wound retractor includes a tether.
35 . The kit of claim 29 , wherein the vacuum tube includes a distal portion defining a generally circular opening, a narrower proximal portion defining a narrower, generally circular opening, and an elongate shaft defining a lumen between the distal portion and the narrower proximal portion.
36 . The kit of claim 35 , wherein the vacuum tube includes a valve.

a wound retractor and specimen bag assembly including a wound retractor and a specimen bag, the wound retractor including:
a proximal ring,
a distal ring, and
a film disposed between the proximal ring and the distal ring,
the specimen bag attached to the distal ring of the wound retractor;
a vacuum tube including a distal portion defining a circular opening, a narrower proximal portion defining a narrower, circular opening, and an elongate shaft defining a lumen between the distal portion and the narrower proximal portion; and
a vacuum source configured and dimensioned to communicate with the vacuum tube.
39 . The kit of claim 38 , wherein the proximal ring of the wound retractor defines a circular opening and is deformable, the distal ring of the wound retractor defines a circular opening and is deformable, and a length of the film of the wound retractor between the proximal ring and the distal ring is adjustable.
