Augmented-reality-based presentation of a tip recommendation on a receipt image

Abstract

In certain embodiments, a receipt image may be augmented via a user device. In some embodiments, the user device may capture an image associated with a receipt and display the image associated with the receipt. The user device may perform image processing on the image to determine merchant data and transaction data (that are visually depicted on the receipt) and determine a tip recommendation based on the merchant data and the transaction data. The user device may overlay the tip recommendation onto the image associated with the receipt.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A user device for augmenting a receipt image, the user device comprising:
 one or more memory devices storing instructions; and   one or more processors configured to execute the stored instructions to:
 capture an image associated with a receipt; 
 display the image associated with the receipt; 
 perform image processing on the image to determine merchant data and transaction data that are visually depicted on the receipt; 
 determine a tip recommendation based on the merchant data and the transaction data; and 
 overlay the tip recommendation onto the image associated with the receipt. 
   
     
     
         2 . The user device of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to execute instructions to:
 receive a request to change the tip recommendation based on a customer input, the request comprising a new tip recommendation; and   modify the displayed image by replacing the tip recommendation with the new tip recommendation.   
     
     
         3 . The user device of  claim 1 , wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and a user setting associated with a user of the user device. 
     
     
         4 . The user device of  claim 1 , wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and one or more tip percentages indicated by a user setting associated with a user of the user device. 
     
     
         5 . The user device of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to execute instructions to:
 determine, based on the merchant data visually depicted on the receipt, historical tipping data of a merchant associated with the merchant data,   wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and the historical tipping data.   
     
     
         6 . The user device of  claim 1 , wherein performing image processing on the image comprises performing, based on a predetermined receipt format, the image to determine the merchant data and the transaction data that are visually depicted on the receipt. 
     
     
         7 . The user device of  claim 7 , wherein the receipt format-defines specific areas where the transaction details occur. 
     
     
         8 . A method comprising:
 capturing, via a user device, an image associated with a receipt;   displaying, via the user device, the image associated with the receipt;   performing image processing on the image to determine merchant data and transaction data that are visually depicted on the receipt;   determining a tip recommendation based on the merchant data and the transaction data; and   overlaying, via the user device, the tip recommendation onto the image associated with the receipt.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising:
 receiving a request to change the tip recommendation based on a customer input, the request comprising a new tip recommendation; and   overlaying, via the user device, the new tip recommendation on the image.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and a user setting associated with a user of the user device. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and one or more tip percentages indicated by a user setting associated with a user of the user device. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 8 , further comprising:
 determining, based on the merchant data visually depicted on the receipt, historical tipping data of a merchant associated with the merchant data,   wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and the historical tipping data.   
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 8 , wherein performing image processing on the image comprises performing, based on a predetermined receipt format, the image to determine the merchant data and the transaction data that are visually depicted on the receipt. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the receipt format-defines specific areas where the transaction details occur. 
     
     
         15 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause operations comprising:
 capturing an image associated with a receipt;   displaying the image associated with the receipt;   performing image processing on the image to determine merchant data and transaction data that are visually depicted on the receipt;   determining a tip recommendation based on the merchant data and the transaction data; and   overlaying the tip recommendation onto the image associated with the receipt.   
     
     
         16 . The media of  claim 15 , the operations further comprising:
 receiving a request to change the tip recommendation based on a customer input, the request comprising a new tip recommendation; and   overlaying the new tip recommendation on the image.   
     
     
         17 . The media of  claim 15 , wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and one or more tip percentages indicated by a user setting associated with a user of the user device. 
     
     
         18 . The media of  claim 15 , the operations further comprising:
 determining, based on the merchant data visually depicted on the receipt, historical tipping data of a merchant associated with the merchant data,   wherein determining the tip recommendation comprises determining the tip recommendation based on the merchant data, the transaction data, and the historical tipping data.   
     
     
         19 . The media of  claim 15 , wherein performing image processing on the image comprises performing, based on a predetermined receipt format, the image to determine the merchant data and the transaction data that are visually depicted on the receipt. 
     
     
         20 . The media of  claim 19 , wherein the receipt format-defines specific areas where the transaction details occur.
