Abstract

Handles configured to be removably coupled to IO devices that are also configured to be coupled to powered drivers. Kits including IO devices and the present handles. Methods of using the present handles and IO devices.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus comprising:
 a handle configured to removably snap onto a hub of an intraosseous device to facilitate hand manipulation of the intraosseous device by a user, the handle including a body having a distal end, a proximal end, and a passage configured to receive the hub and extending from the distal end to the proximal end, the passage having a longitudinal axis and a passage portion disposed between the distal end and the proximal end, the passage portion configured to prevent rotation of the hub relative to the handle.

         2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body has a substantially circular outer perimeter.

         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the passage portion includes a non-circular cross-sectional shape.

         4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the passage portion extends from the distal end toward the proximal end.

         5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the passage further includes an entry portion disposed between the distal end and the passage portion, and wherein the entry portion is configured to permit the handle to rotate around the hub.

         6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the entry portion includes a circular cross sectional shape.

         7 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the entry portion includes a diameter that is equal to or larger than a maximum transverse dimension of the passage portion.

         8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the handle further comprises at least one resilient arm configured to be deflected away from the longitudinal axis of the handle to permit insertion and removal of the hub into the passage.

         9 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein each resilient arm has a first end coupled in fixed relation to the body, and a second end extending from the first end such that the second end is movable toward the longitudinal axis.

         10 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein each resilient arm includes a projection configured to resist removal of the hub.

         11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein each projection extends inward toward the longitudinal axis of the handle.

         12 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein each projection is tapered to permit a user to remove the hub from the passage without first flexing the second end of each arm outward relative to the longitudinal axis.

         13 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body further comprises a plurality of ribs.

         14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the ribs comprise a plurality of longitudinal ribs extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the handle, and at least one circumferential rib extending between longitudinal ribs.

         15 . The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein each rib has a distal edge, and the ribs are configured such that a circle disposed in a plane that is perpendicular to the rotational axis contacts the distal edges of at least three ribs.

         16 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body further includes an opening at the distal end having at least one transverse dimension that is smaller than a corresponding transverse dimension of the passage.

         17 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the handle is configured to permit a fluid source or suction source to be coupled to the hub when the handle is coupled to the hub.

         18 . A kit comprising:
 an intraosseous needle set comprising an outer penetrator configured to penetrate bone and associated bone marrow, an inner penetrator configured to penetrate bone and associated bone marrow, and a hub assembly configured to releasably dispose the inner penetrator within outer penetrator; and an apparatus comprising a handle configured to removably snap onto the hub assembly to facilitate hand manipulation of the intraosseous needle set by a user, the handle including a body having a distal end, a proximal end, and a passage configured to receive the hub assembly and extending from the distal end to the proximal end, the passage having a longitudinal axis and a passage portion disposed between the distal end and the proximal end, the passage portion configured to prevent rotation of the hub assembly relative to the handle.

         19 . The kit of claim 18 , further comprising a tray within which the apparatus and needle set are sealed.

         20 . A method comprising:
 providing an apparatus for accessing bone, the apparatus comprising:
 a hub configured to be removably coupled to a powered driver;
 a cannula having a first end configured to penetrate bone, a second end coupled in fixed relation to the hub, and a channel extending between the first end and the second end;
 a handle configured to be removably coupled to the hub such that a user can grasp the handle to manipulate the cannula by hand;
   inserting the cannula of the apparatus into a bone using a powered driver that is coupled to the hub; de-coupling the powered driver from the hub; coupling the handle to the hub; and manipulating the cannula via the handle.
