Abstract

A thrombus retrieval device configured to restore blood flow in neurovasculature by removing thrombus in human patients experiencing ischemic stroke.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A thrombus retrieval device configured to restore blood flow in neurovasculature by removing thrombus in human patients experiencing ischemic stroke, the device comprising a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration, the thrombus retrieval device comprising:
 a plurality of scaffolding segments comprising one or more thrombus inlet mouths between adjacent scaffolding segments and an interior thrombus reception space;   the thrombus retrieval device configured to restore perfusion to the blood vessel by passing the thrombus retrieval device by, through, or about the thrombus and removing the thrombus retrieval device to achieve approximately a 93% final revascularization rate under the modified treatment in cerebral infarction score of equal to or greater than a grade of 2b (mTICI≥2b) for human patients with one or more cerebral occlusions within a predetermined time period of natural stroke symptom onset.   
     
     
         2 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the scaffolding segments terminating in a distal apex free from connection to an adjacent closed cell. 
     
     
         3 . The device of  claim 2 , wherein the one or more thrombus inlet mouths is between the distal apex and one of the scaffolding segments. 
     
     
         4 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein each scaffolding segments comprises at least one distal apex free from connection to an adjacent closed cell. 
     
     
         5 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein a proximal end of the proximal most scaffolding segment proximally tapers to a junction. 
     
     
         6 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more thrombus inlet mouths being between respective scaffolding segments through which thrombus may pass and enter the device. 
     
     
         7 . The device of  claim 1 , wherein the thrombus is located in one of the following locations: a carotid artery, a M1 middle cerebral artery, a M2 middle cerebral artery, a basilar artery, and a vertebral artery. 
     
     
         8 . A thrombus retrieval device configured to restore blood flow in neurovasculature by removing thrombus in human patients experiencing ischemic stroke, the device comprising a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration, the thrombus retrieval device comprising:
 a plurality of expandable portions having a plurality of struts with closed cells and one or more distal-most apices of the plurality of struts free from connection of an adjacent strut; and   a plurality of thrombus inlet mouths between respective expandable portions through which thrombus may pass and enter the device;   the thrombus retrieval device configured to restore perfusion to the blood vessel by passing the thrombus retrieval device by, through, or about the thrombus and removing the thrombus retrieval device to achieve approximately a 93% final revascularization rate under the modified treatment in cerebral infarction score of equal to or greater than a grade of 2b (mTICI≥2b) for human patients with one or more cerebral occlusions within a predetermined time period of natural stroke symptom onset.   
     
     
         9 . The device of  claim 8 , wherein the plurality of thrombus inlet mouths is between the distal apex of a first expandable body and another expandable body distal thereof. 
     
     
         10 . The device of  claim 8 , wherein each scaffolding segments comprises at least one distal apex free from connection to an adjacent closed cell. 
     
     
         11 . The device of  claim 8 , wherein a proximal end of the most proximal scaffolding segment proximally tapers to a junction. 
     
     
         12 . The device of  claim 8 , wherein the one or more thrombus inlet mouths being between respective scaffolding segments through which thrombus may pass and enter the device. 
     
     
         13 . The device of  claim 8 , wherein the thrombus is located in one of the following locations: a carotid artery, a M1 middle cerebral artery, a M2 middle cerebral artery, a basilar artery, and a vertebral artery. 
     
     
         14 . A thrombus retrieval device configured to restore blood flow in neurovasculature by removing thrombus in human patients experiencing ischemic stroke, the device comprising a collapsed delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration, the thrombus retrieval device comprising:
 a plurality of scaffolding segments forming closed cells, wherein at least one of the thrombus scaffolding segments terminates in a distal apex free from connection to an adjacent closed cell;   at least one thrombus inlet mouth between respective scaffolding segments and the distal apex through which thrombus may pass and enter the device;   the thrombus retrieval device configured to restore perfusion to the blood vessel by passing the thrombus retrieval device by, through, or about the thrombus and removing the thrombus retrieval device to achieve approximately a 93% final revascularization rate under the modified treatment in cerebral infarction score of equal to or greater than a grade of 2b (mTICI≥2b) for human patients with one or more cerebral occlusions within a predetermined time period of natural stroke symptom onset.   
     
     
         15 . The device of  claim 14 , wherein a proximal end of the device proximally tapers to a junction. 
     
     
         16 . The device of  claim 14 , wherein a distal end of the device distally tapers to a closed end. 
     
     
         17 . The device of  claim 14 , wherein each scaffolding segments comprises at least one distal apex free from connection to an adjacent closed cell. 
     
     
         18 . The device of  claim 14 , wherein a proximal end of the most proximal scaffolding segment proximally tapers to a junction. 
     
     
         19 . The device of  claim 14 , wherein the thrombus is located in one of the following locations: a carotid artery, a M1 middle cerebral artery, a M2 middle cerebral artery, a basilar artery, and a vertebral artery. 
     
     
         20 . The device of  claim 14 , further comprising a shaft proximally extended from a proximal end of the device.
