Abstract

The disclosure relates to use of athletic data to generate an output, such as for example, running routes and/or other information useful to runners or other workout participants. Aspects of the disclosure further relate to providing customized workouts to runners by generating routes of interest to a user and modifying the generated routes based on goals and external data.

1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, by a computing device, location information for a plurality of athletes traversing a first route;   determining a second route to be traversed by a user;   determining, using the location information, an average location of the plurality of athletes;   determining, based on the average location of the plurality of athletes, routing information enabling the user to join the plurality of athletes at one or more points along the first route; and   outputting the routing information for display.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 generating, by the computing device, a user interface indicating:
 a map; and 
 athletic activity data for the plurality of athletes. 
   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 displaying, via a user interface, the routing information.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein generating the user interface further comprises:
 generating one or more heat maps.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 indicating, via the user interface, the one or more points along the first route.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising:
 filtering activity routes displayed via the user interface based on at least one of: a route distance, a difficulty level, a popularity level, or a number of users that have previously traversed the activity route.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the routing information directs the user to the one or more points along the first route during a first time period such that the user may join the plurality of athletes traversing the first route. 
     
     
         8 . An apparatus comprising:
 one or more processors; and   memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the apparatus to:
 receive location information for a plurality of athletes traversing a first route; 
 determine a second route to be traversed by a user; 
 determine, using the location information, an average location of the plurality of athletes; 
 determine, based on the average location of the plurality of athletes, routing information enabling the user to join the plurality of athletes at one or more points along the first route; and 
 output the routing information for display. 
   
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 generate a user interface indicating:
 a map; and 
 athletic activity of the plurality of athletes. 
   
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 display, via a user interface, the routing information.   
     
     
         11 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to generate the user interface by:
 generating one or more heat maps.   
     
     
         12 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 indicate, via the user interface, the one or more points along the first route.   
     
     
         13 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, further cause the apparatus to:
 filter activity routes displayed via the user interface based on at least one of: a route distance, a difficulty level, a popularity level, or a number of users that have previously traversed the activity route.   
     
     
         14 . The apparatus of  claim 9 , wherein the routing information directs the user to the one or more points along the first route during a first time period such that the user may join the plurality of athletes traversing the first route. 
     
     
         15 . One or more non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions that, when executed cause:
 receiving location information for a plurality of athletes traversing a first route;   determining a second route to be traversed by a user;   determining, using the location information, an average location of the plurality of athletes;   determining, based on the average location of the plurality of athletes, routing information enabling the user to join the plurality of athletes at one or more points along the first route; and   outputting the routing information for display.   
     
     
         16 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 generating a user interface indicating:
 a map; and 
 athletic activity data for the plurality of athletes. 
   
     
     
         17 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of  claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 displaying, via a user interface, the routing information.   
     
     
         18 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of  claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 indicating, via the user interface, the one or more points along the first route.   
     
     
         19 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of  claim 17 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause:
 filtering activity routes displayed via the user interface based on at least one of: a route distance, a difficulty level, a popularity level, or a number of users that have previously traversed the activity route.
