Boxing glove

Abstract

An improved boxing glove provides the athlete the ability to quickly don or remove the boxing glove over a smaller mixed martial arts glove allowing the athlete to quickly transition between event modes. The boxing glove has an open palmar face and a gap at a cuff end of the glove that readily accepts the MMA gloved hand of the user. The glove has a padded mitt at a distal end that receives the fingers of the user. The padding on a back side of the padded mitt is reduced to accommodate for a corresponding padding on a back side of the padded.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A boxing glove, comprising:
 a padded mitt defined at a distal end that is dimensioned to receive the fingers and a gloved hand of a wearer;   a wrist pad defined at a proximal cuff end of the glove, the wrist pad dimensioned to encircle a majority of the wearer's wrist, and a gap defined between an inner and an outer terminal end of the wrist pad;   a strap attached to one of the inner or the outer terminal ends of the wrist pad, the strap and the wrist pad configured with a cooperating fastener to cinch the wrist pad about a wrist of the wearer;   a padded thumb pocket dimensioned to receive a thumb of the wearer; and   an open palmar region of the glove coextensive with the gap.   
     
     
         2 . The boxing glove of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a cooperating hook and a pile fastener attached to an inside surface of a free end of the strap and an outside surface of the wrist pad at a terminal end of the wrist pad opposite the strap.   
     
     
         3 . The boxing glove of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 an outer surface of the padded thumb pocket that is coextensive with an outer surface of the padded mitt to provide a smooth padded striking face of the boxing glove.   
     
     
         4 . The boxing glove of  claim 3 , further comprising:
 a fabric material disposed across an interior face of the padded mitt to define a pocket at the distal end of a palmar face of the boxing glove and the opening at a proximal end of the palmar face.   
     
     
         5 . The boxing glove of  claim 4 , wherein the fabric material extends to a line proximal to a knuckle joints of the wearer hand, such that the opening is defined between the finger joints and the gap at the wrist pad. 
     
     
         6 . A boxing glove, comprising:
 a padded mitt defined at a distal end that is dimensioned to receive the fingers and a gloved hand of a wearer;   a wrist pad defined at a proximal cuff end of the glove, the wrist pad dimensioned to encircle a majority of the wearer's wrist, with a gap defined at a palmar face of the wrist pad;   a strap configured with a cooperating fastener to cinch the wrist pad about a wrist of the wearer;   a padded thumb pocket dimensioned to receive a thumb of the wearer; and   an open palmar region of the glove.   
     
     
         7 . The boxing glove of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a cooperating hook and a pile fastener attached to an inside surface of a free end of the strap and an outside surface of the wrist pad at a terminal end of the wrist pad opposite the strap.   
     
     
         8 . The boxing glove of  claim 7 , further comprising:
 an outer surface of the padded thumb pocket that is coextensive with an outer surface of the padded mitt to provide a smooth padded striking face of the boxing glove.   
     
     
         9 . The boxing glove of  claim 8 , further comprising:
 a fabric material defining a palmar face of the padded mitt.   
     
     
         10 . The boxing glove of  claim 9 , wherein the fabric material extends to a line proximal to a knuckle joints of the wearer's hand, such that the opening is defined between the finger joints and the gap at the wrist pad.
