Abstract

Oral care compositions consisting essentially of a Sea Salt, at least one essential oil, xylitol, and preferably, aloe vera juice and uses of such compositions to whiten teeth, reduce sensitivity of teeth/gums, and reduce xerostomia. In preferred embodiments directed to teeth whitening and xerostomia. the compositions also include coconut oil. Delivery systems for whitening teeth comprised of a strip formed be combining (i) one or a combination of teeth whitening ingredients selected from Dead Sea Salt, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Citrus limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, and Salvia officinalis (Sage) Oil and (ii) one or more gelling/thickening agents, wherein the strip is conformable to teeth surfaces and to interstitial spaces between teeth, without permanent deformation thereof, and is removably attached to a release liner. The strips may also contain one or more peroxides, metal chlorites, perborates, percarbonates, and peroxyacids.

1 . An oral care composition consisting essentially of
a. a Sea Salt b. at least one essential oil c. xylitol

2 . The oral care composition of claim 1 wherein the Sea Salt is Dead Sea Salt.

3 . The oral care composition of claim 2 wherein the Sea Salt is Dead Sea Salt is present at a concentration of from about 0.5% to about 3.0%.

4 . An oral care composition according to any of claim 1 or 2 that contains aloe vera juice.

5 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein the at least one essential oil is peppermint and one of wintergreen or spearmint.

6 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein the at least one essential oil is wintergreen and one of peppermint or spearmint.

7 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein the at least one essential oil is spearmint and one of peppermint or wintergreen.

8 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein the at least one essential oil is spearmint, peppermint and wintergreen.

9 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein essential oil of peppermint is present at a concentration of up to about 0.03%.

10 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein essential oil of spearmint is present at a concentration of up to about 0.5%.

11 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein essential oil of wintergreen is present at a concentration of up to about 2.0%.

12 . An oral care composition according to any of claims 1 - 11 that contains essential oil of holy basil.

13 . An oral care composition according to any of claims 1 - 12 that contains essential oil of clove.

14 . An oral care composition according to any of claims 1 - 13 that contains basil and clove.

15 . An oral care composition according to claim 4 wherein xylitol is present at a concentration of at least 5%.

16 . An oral care composition according to any of claims 1 - 15 wherein the composition is a dentifrice.

17 . An oral care composition according to claim 16 wherein the composition contains glycerin and at least one surfactant.

18 . An oral care composition according to claim 17 wherein the at least one surfactant is not sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate.

19 . An oral care composition according to claim 18 wherein the at least one surfactant is coconut derived.

20 . An oral care composition according to claim 19 wherein the at least one surfactant is Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate.

21 . An oral care composition according to claim 16 wherein the composition contains at least one non-abrasive powder.

22 . An oral care composition according to claim 21 wherein the at one least non-abrasive powder is a hydrated silica.

23 . An oral care composition according to any of claims 1 to 15 wherein the composition is a mouthwash.

24 . An oral care composition according to any of claims 16 to 22 that whitens teeth.

25 . An oral care composition according to claim 23 that whitens teeth.

26 . An oral care composition according to claim 24 that contains at least one of Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Citrus medica limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, or Salvia officinalis (Sage) Oil.

27 . An oral care composition according to claim 26 that contains at least two of Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Citrus medica limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, or Salvia officinalis (Sage) Oil.

28 . An oral care composition according to claim 27 that contains Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Citrus medica limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil, or Salvia officinalis (Sage) Oil.

A delivery system for whitening teeth comprised of at least one teeth whitening agent selected from the group of (i) Dead Sea Salt and/or (ii) at least one essential oils selected from the group consisting of Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Citrus limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, and Salvia officinalis (Sage) Oil, wherein the teeth whitening agent(s) is/are combined with one or more thickening or gelling agents to form a strip of flexible material, wherein the strip is conformable to teeth surfaces and to interstitial spaces between teeth, without permanent deformation thereof, and the strip is removably attached to a release liner.

55 . The delivery system for whitening teeth of claim 54 comprising at least two of Coconut Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, and Sage Oil.

56 . The delivery system for whitening teeth of claim 55 comprising Coconut Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, and Sage Oil.

57 . The delivery system for whitening teeth of any of claims 54 - 56 wherein Dead Sea Salt is present at a concentration of up to about 500 g.

58 . The delivery system for whitening teeth of any of claims 54 - 57 wherein Coconut Oil is present at a concentration of up to about 500 g.

59 . The delivery system for whitening teeth of any of claims 54 - 58 wherein Lemon Peel Oil is present at a concentration of up to about 500 g.
