Abstract

According to certain aspects, systems and methods are provided for automating recovery of a networked data storage environment. For instance, a system can generate a data recovery package configured to automatically carry out a process for recovering a data storage environment and/or associated data. The content of the particular workflow depends on the data storage environment, and can be defined by a user.

         2 . A method of automating recovery of a networked data storage environment, the method comprising:
 generating an automated data recovery workflow based on user input;   storing the automated data recovery workflow in storage associated with a first computing device;   accessing, using a second computing device that is remote from the first computing device, the automated data recovery workflow located in the storage associated with the first computing device; and   executing the automated data recovery workflow using the second computing device, wherein executing the automated data recovery workflow comprises:
 installing on at least one computing device of a first set of computer hardware devices a first secondary storage controller corresponding to a second secondary storage controller that was installed on at least one computing device of a second set of computer hardware devices, wherein the first secondary storage controller is configured to manage data storage operations between at least one client computing device of the first set of computer hardware devices and at least one secondary storage device of the first set of computer hardware devices, and 
 copying at least a portion of content of a data store associated with the second set of computer hardware devices to one or more storage devices associated with the first set of computer hardware devices, the portion of content including a copy of data that was generated by at least one application executing on a client computing device of the second set of computer hardware devices. 
   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the first set of computer hardware devices are remote from the second set of computer hardware devices. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein executing the automated data recovery workflow is executed to completion without human intervention. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow includes configuration parameters associated with the second secondary storage controller, and wherein the configuration parameters are utilized to automatically configure the first secondary storage controller. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein a copy of configuration parameters associated with the second secondary storage controller are stored remotely from the second set of computer hardware devices, and
 wherein executing the automated data recovery workflow further comprises:   accessing the copy of the configuration parameters, and   automatically configuring the first secondary storage controller based at least in part on the copy of the configuration parameters.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow is generated by:
 accessing a database including executable versions of a set of available commands;   extracting from the executable versions of selected commands from the set of available commands; and   assembling extracted executable versions to form the automated data recovery workflow.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow comprises code segments, each of the code segments corresponding to one of the selected commands. 
     
     
         9 . A computer system, comprising:
 one or more computer processors configured to:   generate an automated data recovery workflow based on user input;   store the automated data recovery workflow in storage associated with a first computing device;   access, with a second computing device that is remote from the first computing device, the automated data recovery workflow stored on the storage associated with the first computing device; and   execute the automated data recovery workflow, wherein execution of the automated data recovery workflow causes the one or more computer processors to:
 install on at least one computing device of a first set of computer hardware devices a first secondary storage controller corresponding to a second secondary storage controller that was installed on at least one computing device of a second set of computer hardware devices, wherein the first secondary storage controller is configured to manage data storage operations between at least one client computing device of the first set of computer hardware devices and at least one secondary storage device of the first set of computer hardware devices, and 
 copy at least a portion of content of a data store associated with the second set of computer hardware devices to one or more storage devices associated with the first set of computer hardware devices, the portion of content including a copy of data that was generated by at least one application executing on a client computing device of the second set of computer hardware devices. 
   
     
     
         10 . The computer system of  claim 9 , wherein the first set of computer hardware devices are remote from the second set of computer hardware devices. 
     
     
         11 . The computer system of  claim 9 , wherein the one or more computer processors are configured to execute the automated data recovery workflow to completion without human intervention. 
     
     
         12 . The computer system of  claim 9 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow includes configuration parameters associated with the second secondary storage controller, and wherein the execution of the automated data recovery workflow further causes the one or more computer processors to configure the first secondary storage controller based at least in part on the configuration parameters. 
     
     
         13 . The computer system of  claim 9 , wherein a copy of configuration parameters associated with the second secondary storage controller are stored remotely from the second set of computer hardware devices, and
 wherein the execution of the automated data recovery workflow, further causes the one or more computer processors to:   access the copy of the configuration parameters, and   automatically configure the first secondary storage controller based at least in part on the copy of the configuration parameters.   
     
     
         14 . The computer system of  claim 9 , wherein to generate the automated data recovery workflow, the first computing device is configured to:
 access a database including executable versions of a set of available commands;   extract from the executable versions of selected commands from the set of available commands; and   assemble extracted executable versions to form the automated data recovery workflow.   
     
     
         15 . The computer system of  claim 14 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow comprises code segments, each of the code segments corresponding to one of the selected commands. 
     
     
         16 . Computer-readable, non-transitory, storage medium comprising computer-executable instructions that when executed by one or more computer processors cause the one or more computer processors to:
 access an automated data recovery workflow stored on storage associated with a first computing device, wherein the automated data recovery workflow is generated by the first computing device; and   execute the automated data recovery workflow, wherein execution of the automated data recovery workflow causes the one or more computer processors to:
 install on at least one computing device of a first set of computer hardware devices a first secondary storage controller corresponding to a second secondary storage controller that was installed on at least one computing device of a second set of computer hardware devices, wherein the first secondary storage controller is configured to manage data storage operations between at least one client computing device of the first set of computer hardware devices and at least one secondary storage device of the first set of computer hardware devices, and 
 copy at least a portion of content of a data store associated with the second set of computer hardware devices to one or more storage devices associated with the first set of computer hardware devices, the portion of content including a copy of data that was generated by at least one application executing on a client computing device of the second set of computer hardware devices. 
   
     
     
         17 . The computer-readable, non-transitory storage medium of  claim 16 , wherein the first set of computer hardware devices are remote from the second set of computer hardware devices. 
     
     
         18 . The computer-readable, non-transitory storage medium of  claim 16 , wherein the computer-executable instructions cause the one or more computer processors to execute the automated data recovery workflow to completion without human intervention. 
     
     
         19 . The computer-readable, non-transitory storage medium of  claim 16 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow includes configuration parameters associated with the second secondary storage controller, and wherein the execution of the automated data recovery workflow, further causes the one or more computer processors to configure the first secondary storage controller based at least in part on the configuration parameters. 
     
     
         20 . The computer-readable, non-transitory storage medium of  claim 16 , wherein a copy of configuration parameters associated with the second secondary storage controller are stored remotely from the second set of computer hardware devices, and
 wherein the execution of the automated data recovery workflow, further causes the one or more computer processors to:   access the copy of the configuration parameters, and   automatically configure the first secondary storage controller based at least in part on the copy of the configuration parameters.   
     
     
         21 . The computer-readable, non-transitory storage medium of  claim 16 , wherein the automated data recovery workflow comprises code segments.
