Use of akkermansia in the treatment of oral diseases

Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of Akkermansia and/or fragments thereof in the treatment and/or prevention of oral diseases. In particular, the present invention relates to Akkermansia muciniphila and/or fragments thereof, such as proteins and secreted molecules, for use in treating and/or preventing oral diseases.

1 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use in the treatment of oral diseases. 
     
     
         2 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according to  claim 1 , wherein said oral diseases are selected from the group comprising or consisting of periodontal diseases, periodontitis, gingivitis, peri-implant mucositis, peri-implantitis, oral thrush, dental caries and black hairy tongue. 
     
     
         3 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for preventing and/or improving bad breath in a subject in need thereof. 
     
     
         4 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according anyone of  claims 1  to  3 , wherein said  Akkermansia  is selected from the group comprising or consisting of  Akkermansia muciniphila, Akkermansia glycaniphilus  and variants thereof. 
     
     
         5 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according to anyone of  claims 1  to  4 , wherein said  Akkermansia  is alive. 
     
     
         6 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according to anyone of  claims 1  to  4 , wherein said  Akkermansia  is pasteurized. 
     
     
         7 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according to any one of  claims 1  to  6 , wherein said fragments are selected from the group comprising or consisting of the protein Amuc_1100 and  Akkermansia -derived extracellular vesicles. 
     
     
         8 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according to any one of  claims 1  to  7 , wherein said  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof is orally administered. 
     
     
         9 .  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for use according to  claim 8 , wherein said oral administration comprises oral administration and topical administration. 
     
     
         10 . A composition for treating oral diseases or for preventing and/or improving bad breath comprising  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof in association with an excipient. 
     
     
         11 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient for treating oral diseases. 
     
     
         12 . A medicament comprising  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for treating oral diseases. 
     
     
         13 . A medical device comprising  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for treating oral diseases. 
     
     
         14 . Use of  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for preventing and/or improving bad breath in a subject in need thereof. 
     
     
         15 . A cosmetic composition comprising  Akkermansia  and/or fragments thereof for preventing and/or improving bad breath.
