Packaging for disposable soft contact lenses
Abstract
The present disclosure provides a contact lens package containing a contact lens in a compressed state. In one exemplary embodiment, the overall internal depth of the package is less than the natural sagittal depth of the contact lens. Different single-use contact lens package shapes and configurations may be used. In some embodiments, a spring disc is included in the packages to help present the contact lens to the user when the package is opened. The contact lens packages may be adhered or clipped to a card or other carrier sheet, and may be housed in a number of different secondary packages.

21 . A contact lens package, comprising:
a first package portion; a second package portion, the first package portion and the second package portion cooperating to define a sealed cavity for a contact lens; and a deformable member associated with the contact lens in the sealed cavity, wherein the deformable member is configured to manipulate the contact lens into a predetermined orientation upon opening of the contact lens package.
22 . The contact lens package of claim 21 , wherein the predetermined orientation at least partially exposes a convex surface of the contact lens to a user.
23 . The contact lens package of claim 21 , wherein the deformable member is engaged with the contact lens within the sealed cavity.
24 . The contact lens package of claim 21 , wherein:
the deformable member is deformable between a first shape and a second shape, and the contact lens is in a first position when the deformable member presents in the first shape, and the contact lens is in a second position having the predetermined orientation when the deformable member presents in the second shape.
25 . The contact lens package of claim 24 , wherein the second position of the contact lens is elevationally higher in the contact lens package relative to the first position of the contact lens.
26 . The contact lens package of claim 24 , wherein:
the deformable member defines a manipulation surface that is configured to receive a user input; and the deformable member deforms from the first shape and to the second shape in response to the user input.
27 . The contact lens package of claim 21 , wherein the deformable member forms a cradle on which the contact lens rests within the sealed cavity.
28 . The contact lens package of claim 21 , wherein the deformable member spans a substantial entirety of a diameter of the sealed cavity.
29 . The contact lens package of claim 21 , wherein:
the deformable member is configured to transition between a tightened state and relaxed state, and the predetermined orientation of the contact lens is defined by the deformable member being in one of the tightened state or the relaxed state.
30 . A contact lens package, comprising:
a first package portion; a second package portion, the first package portion and the second package portion cooperating to define a sealed cavity; and a contact lens sealed within the sealed cavity, the contact lens having a convex surface and a concave surface; wherein the first and second package portions are configured to orient relative to one another to open the contact lens packaging and consistently present at least a portion of the convex surface of the contact lens to a user.
31 . The contact lens package of claim 30 , wherein:
the contact lens package further comprises a manipulation feature holding the contact lens within the sealed cavity, and the manipulation feature is configured to orient the contact lens in a predetermined orientation such that a manipulation of the first and second package portions to open the contact lens packaging allows the consistent presentation of the convex surface of the contact lens.
32 . The contact lens package of claim 31 , wherein the manipulation feature engages the convex surface of the contact lens within the sealed cavity.
33 . The contact lens package of claim 30 , wherein:
the contact lens package further comprises a hydration fluid in the sealed cavity, the contact lens at least partially immersed with the hydration fluid; and the manipulation of the first and second package portions to open the contact lens packaging causes the contact lens to at least partially separate from the hydration fluid.
34 . The contact lens package of claim 30 , wherein the manipulation of the first and second package portions to open the contact lens packaging causes the convex surface of the contact lens to move from a first orientation to a second orientation.
35 . The contact lens package of claim 30 , wherein the at least a portion of the convex surface defines a surface area of the contact lens configured to allow the user to pinch off the contact lens from one or both of the first or second package portions between a thumb a forefinger.
36 . A contact lens package, comprising:
a first package portion; a second package portion, the first package portion and the second package portion cooperating to define a sealed cavity; and a manipulation feature within the sealed cavity and holding a contact lens in a first orientation; wherein the manipulation feature is configured to move the contact lens from the first orientation to a second orientation in which at least a portion of a convex surface of the lens is presented to a user upon opening of the contact lens package.
37 . The contact lens package of claim 36 , wherein the manipulation feature is connected to one of the first package portion or the second package portion.
38 . The contact lens package of claim 36 , wherein the manipulation feature is slideable relative to the sealed cavity.
39 . The contact lens package of claim 36 , wherein the manipulation feature is elastically deformable.
40 . The contact lens package of claim 36 , wherein:
the manipulation feature is configured to receive a force input from the user; the manipulation feature transitions between a first shape and a second shape in response to the force input; the contact lens is in the first orientation with the manipulation feature in the first shape; and the contact lens is in the second orientation with the manipulation feature in the second shape.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
