Abstract
Methods for treating a renal associated disease condition in a subject are provided. The subject methods are characterized by modulating at least one portion of the subject's autonomic nervous system in a manner effective to treat a renal condition in the subject. Specifically, the methods may include modulating, e.g., increasing, a parasympathetic/sympathetic activity ratio in the subject. Also provided are compositions, kits and systems for practicing the subject methods.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of treating a renal associated condition in a subject, said method comprising:
modulating at least one portion of the autonomic nervous system in said subject, whereby said modulating is in a manner effective to treat said subject for said renal condition, wherein said modulating comprising increasing a parasympathetic/sympathetic activity ratio in said subject.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said modulating comprises administering an effective amount of a pharmacological agent to said subject.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said pharmacological agent is an autonomic nervous system modulator.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method comprises increasing parasympathetic activity.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method comprises decreasing sympathetic activity.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method comprises increasing parasympathetic activity and decreasing sympathetic activity.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said modulation is accomplished by at least applying electrical energy from an electrical energy applying device to said at least one portion of said autonomic nervous system.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said application of electrical energy comprises electrically increasing activity in at least one portion of said autonomic nervous system.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein said application of electrical energy comprises electrically inhibiting activity in at least one portion of said autonomic nervous system.
10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said method comprises increasing parasympathetic activity.
11 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said method comprises decreasing sympathetic activity.
12 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said method comprises increasing parasympathetic activity and decreasing sympathetic activity.
13 . The method of claim 7 , wherein said method further comprises administering an effective amount of a pharmacological agent to said subject.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said method comprises increasing parasympathetic activity.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said method comprises decreasing sympathetic activity.
16 . The method of claim 13 , wherein said method comprises increasing parasympathetic activity and decreasing sympathetic activity.
17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said renal associated condition comprises a member selected from the group consisting of acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, contrast nephropathy, and cardiorenal syndrome.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said renal condition is cardiorenal syndrome.
19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said renal condition is contrast nephropathy.
20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein said contrast nephropathy is iodine-based contrast nephropathy.
