Abstract
Systems and methods for performing bit rate encoding are described. One of the methods includes receiving data indicating a change in a first connection speed that is associated with a first network. The change generates a second connection speed. The method further includes determining whether a media file is being downloaded. The method also includes determining that a current segment of the media file is being downloaded. The current segment is downloaded at a first bit rate and the first bit rate is associated with the first connection speed. The method includes determining whether the media file includes a remaining segment to be downloaded. The current segment precedes the remaining segment. The method includes identifying a second bit rate based on the second connection speed, receiving the remaining segment at the second bit rate, and stitching the remaining segment with the current segment.

1 . A method comprising:
transmitting, from a server to a user device, a first segment of a media file at a first bit rate; receiving, at the server from the user device, a notification of a change in a connection speed of a network connection used to transmit the first segment of the media file; identifying a second bit rate based on the change in the connection speed; identifying a first remaining segment of the media file and a second remaining segment of the media file, wherein the first remaining segment of the media file is to be transmitted at the first bit rate; in response to determining that a difference between a first group of audio characteristics and a second group of audio characteristics exceeds a predetermined threshold value, stitching the first remaining segment at the first bit rate and the second remaining segment at the second bit rate to form a stitched media file; and transmitting the stitched media file to the user device.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating the first group of audio characteristics associated with the first remaining segment of the media file and the second group of audio characteristics associated with the second remaining segment of the media file.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
identifying a third remaining segment of the media file and a fourth remaining segment of the media file, wherein the third remaining segment of the media file is to be transmitted at the first bit rate; generating a third group of audio characteristics associated with the third remaining segment of the media file and a fourth group of audio characteristics associated with the fourth remaining segment of the media file; and in response to determining that a difference between the third group of audio characteristics and the fourth group of audio characteristics does not exceed the predetermined threshold value, inhibiting transmitting of the fourth remaining segment of the media file at the first bit rate.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first group of audio characteristics and the second group of audio characteristics correspond to a pitch of the first remaining segment of the media file and a pitch of the second remaining segment of the media file.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the notification of the change in the connection speed is received by the server in connection with a music application executing on the user device.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media file corresponds to an audio content item stored in a music library associated with a user account authenticated on the user device, wherein the music library and the audio content item are hosted by the server.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media file corresponds to a first audio content item in a playlist comprising a plurality of audio content items.
8 . A system comprising:
a hardware processor that is configured to:
transmit, from a server to a user device, a first segment of a media file at a first bit rate;
receive, at the server from the user device, a notification of a change in a connection speed of a network connection used to transmit the first segment of the media file;
identify a second bit rate based on the change in the connection speed;
identify a first remaining segment of the media file and a second remaining segment of the media file, wherein the first remaining segment of the media file is to be transmitted at the first bit rate;
in response to determining that a difference between a first group of audio characteristics and a second group of audio characteristics exceeds a predetermined threshold value, stitch the first remaining segment at the first bit rate and the second remaining segment at the second bit rate to form a stitched media file; and
transmit the stitched media file to the user device.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to generate the first group of audio characteristics associated with the first remaining segment of the media file and the second group of audio characteristics associated with the second remaining segment of the media file.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to:
identify a third remaining segment of the media file and a fourth remaining segment of the media file, wherein the third remaining segment of the media file is to be transmitted at the first bit rate; generate a third group of audio characteristics associated with the third remaining segment of the media file and a fourth group of audio characteristics associated with the fourth remaining segment of the media file; and in response to determining that a difference between the third group of audio characteristics and the fourth group of audio characteristics does not exceed the predetermined threshold value, inhibit transmitting of the fourth remaining segment of the media file at the first bit rate.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the first group of audio characteristics and the second group of audio characteristics correspond to a pitch of the first remaining segment of the media file and a pitch of the second remaining segment of the media file.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the notification of the change in the connection speed is received by the server in connection with a music application executing on the user device.
13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the media file corresponds to an audio content item stored in a music library associated with a user account authenticated on the user device, wherein the music library and the audio content item are hosted by the server.
14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the media file corresponds to a first audio content item in a playlist comprising a plurality of audio content items.
15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing computer executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method, the method comprising:
transmitting, from a server to a user device, a first segment of a media file at a first bit rate; receiving, at the server from the user device, a notification of a change in a connection speed of a network connection used to transmit the first segment of the media file; identifying a second bit rate based on the change in the connection speed; identifying a first remaining segment of the media file and a second remaining segment of the media file, wherein the first remaining segment of the media file is to be transmitted at the first bit rate; in response to determining that a difference between a first group of audio characteristics and a second group of audio characteristics exceeds a predetermined threshold value, stitching the first remaining segment at the first bit rate and the second remaining segment at the second bit rate to form a stitched media file; and transmitting the stitched media file to the user device.
16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises generating the first group of audio characteristics associated with the first remaining segment of the media file and the second group of audio characteristics associated with the second remaining segment of the media file.
17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
identifying a third remaining segment of the media file and a fourth remaining segment of the media file, wherein the third remaining segment of the media file is to be transmitted at the first bit rate; generating a third group of audio characteristics associated with the third remaining segment of the media file and a fourth group of audio characteristics associated with the fourth remaining segment of the media file; and in response to determining that a difference between the third group of audio characteristics and the fourth group of audio characteristics does not exceed the predetermined threshold value, inhibiting transmitting of the fourth remaining segment of the media file at the first bit rate.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the first group of audio characteristics and the second group of audio characteristics correspond to a pitch of the first remaining segment of the media file and a pitch of the second remaining segment of the media file.
19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the notification of the change in the connection speed is received by the server in connection with a music application executing on the user device.
20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the media file corresponds to an audio content item stored in a music library associated with a user account authenticated on the user device, wherein the music library and the audio content item are hosted by the server.
