Abstract
Medicament delivery devices are described herein. In some embodiments, an apparatus includes a medical injector and an electronic circuit system. The medical injector includes a housing, a medicament container, and a medicament delivery member. The housing defines a first region and a second region. The first region includes the medicament container and is physically isolated from the second region. The electronic circuit system is configured to be disposed within the second region defined by the housing. The electronic circuit system is configured to output an electronic output associated with a use of the medical injector.

1 . A method of training a user in the operation of a medical injector, the method comprising:
activating an electronic circuit system to output a recorded speech output, the electronic circuit system coupled to a housing associated with the medical injector, the recorded speech output associated with a first instruction; removing a safety lock from the housing, the safety lock configured to limit movement of a base when the safety lock is coupled to the housing, a first switch of the electronic circuit system being actuated when the safety lock is removed, the electronic circuit system producing a second instruction when the first switch is actuated; placing, after the removing the safety lock, the base against a target location; and moving, after the placing, the base from a first position to a second position relative to the housing, a portion of the base actuating a second switch of the electronic circuit system when the base is moved to the second position, the electronic circuit system producing a third instruction when the second switch is actuated.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the activating the electronic circuit system includes manipulating a button coupled to the housing; and the moving the base is performed independently from the manipulating the button.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the recorded speech output is a first recorded speech output; and the second instruction includes a second recorded speech output that identifies the base coupled to the housing and the target location.
4 . The method of training the user in the operation of the medical injector of claim 1 , wherein:
the base includes a protrusion configured to retain the base in the second position; and the safety lock includes a protrusion that separates the base from the housing to limit movement of the base when the safety lock is coupled to the housing.
5 . The method of training the user in the operation of the medical injector of claim 1 , wherein:
the medical injector is an epinephrine autoinjector.
6 . A medicament delivery assembly, comprising:
a medicament delivery device configured to deliver a medicament, the medicament delivery device having a first housing, an energy storage member, and a medicament container containing the medicament, the medicament container disposed within the first housing and configured to be coupled to a delivery member, the energy storage member configured to produce a force to initiate delivery of the medicament from the medicament container through the delivery member; an electronics assembly having an electronic circuit system and a second housing formed separately from the first housing, the electronic circuit system coupled to the second housing, the electronic circuit system including a switch, a status output device, and a wireless network interface device, the electronic circuit system configured to produce at least one of a wireless signal via the wireless network interface device or a status output via the status output device in response to the switch changing from an engaged state to a disengaged state; and a case defining an interior volume receiving at least a distal portion of the first housing of the medicament delivery device and at least a portion of the second housing, the case having a case end portion and a protrusion extending from the case end portion, the protrusion configured to move between a first position and a second position, the protrusion extending into the interior volume of the case and extending within the second housing and in contact with the switch to maintain the switch in the engaged state when the protrusion is in the first position, the protrusion configured to disengage the switch such that the switch is in the disengaged state when the protrusion is moved to the second position.
7 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 6 , wherein:
the case end portion of the case is configured to move relative to the medicament delivery device between a storage position and an access position, the case limiting access to the medicament delivery device when the case end portion is in the storage position, the medicament delivery device being accessible when the case end portion is in the access position; the medicament delivery assembly being in a first configuration when the case end portion is in the storage position, the medicament delivery assembly being in a second configuration when the case end portion is in the access position; and the protrusion configured to move from the first position to the second position when the case end portion moves from the storage position to the access position.
8 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 6 , wherein:
the protrusion is configured to move from the second position to the first position when the case end portion moves from the access position to the storage position, the protrusion configured to extend into the interior volume and to engage the switch when the protrusion is moved from the second position to the first position; and the electronics assembly is configured to disable the status output device and the wireless interface device when the switch changes from the disengaged state to the engaged state.
9 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 6 , wherein the status output is an output associated with a status of one of the medicament delivery assembly or a status of the medicament.
10 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 6 , wherein:
the status output is a first status output; the wireless signal is a first wireless signal; the distal portion of the first housing of the medicament delivery device is configured to be removable from the interior volume; and the electronic circuit system is configured to actuate the status output device to produce a second status output and to actuate the wireless network interface device to produce a second wireless signal after the distal portion of the medicament delivery device is removed from the interior volume.
11 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 10 , wherein the second status output includes at least one of a plurality of audible tones or a plurality of light pulses.
12 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 10 , wherein:
actuation of the medicament delivery device to produce the force to initiate the delivery of the medicament is enabled after the removal of the distal portion of the first housing of the medicament delivery device from the interior volume; the medicament delivery assembly is configured to change from the second configuration to a third configuration in response to the removal of the distal portion of the medicament delivery device from the interior volume; and the electronic circuit system is configured to produce the second status output via the status output device and the second wireless signal via the wireless network interface device when the medicament delivery assembly is changed from the second configuration to the third configuration.
13 . The medicament delivery assembly of claim 6 , wherein:
the medicament delivery assembly is an auto-injector; the delivery member is a needle configured to be placed in fluid communication with the medicament container; and. the medicament is epinephrine.
14 . A method, comprising:
assembling a medical device configured to deliver a medicament into a body, the medical device including a housing, a medicament container disposed within the housing, an actuator, and a safety lock, the actuator configured to initiate delivery of the medicament from the medicament container when the actuator is actuated, the safety lock configured to prevent the actuation of the actuator; and coupling an electronic circuit system to the housing of the assembled medical device such that an opening defined by a substrate of the electronic circuit system is disposed about a portion of the safety lock, the electronic circuit system configured to output an electronic output in response to a movement of the safety lock within the opening.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the substrate includes an electrical conductor disposed adjacent the opening such that the movement of the safety lock within the opening disrupts the electrical conductor.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the opening defined by the substrate of the electric circuit system is a first opening, the method further comprising coupling the circuit to the housing such that a second opening defined by the substrate is disposed about a portion of the actuator.
17 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising sterilizing at least a portion of the medical device before the coupling.
18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein: the assembling includes disposing the medicament container within a first region defined by the housing; and the coupling includes disposing at least a portion of the electronic circuit system within a second region defined by the housing, the second region being physically isolated from the first region.
19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the coupling includes coupling the electronic circuit system to the housing of the assembled medical device such that a portion of the housing severs an electrical conductor disposed on the substrate of the electronic circuit system.
20 . The method of claim 14 , further comprising disposing a cover about the medical device after the coupling, such that a protrusion of the cover is disposed between a battery and a battery contact portion of the electronic circuit system.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
