Storage device supporting multiple communication types and operating method thereof
Abstract
A storage device includes nonvolatile memory devices, a connector that includes connection terminals, and a controller that communicates with an external host device through the connector and to control the nonvolatile memory devices. The connector provides the external host device with detection information in response to the connector being connected with the external host device. Power is supplied from the external host device to the controller and the nonvolatile memory devices through the connector in response to the providing of the detection information. The connector provides the external host device with information of a communication type in which the controller communicates with the external host device, after the power is supplied. The communication type is one of a first communication type and a second communication type. The controller configures the connection terminals to correspond to a single or dual port based on a signal received from the external host device.

1 . A method comprising:
in response to detecting that a storage device is hot plugged into a host device, supplying, by the host device, power to the storage device; after supplying the power, receiving, by the host device, a communication type of the storage device, the communication type being one of serial advanced technology attachment (SATA) and peripheral component interconnect express (PCIe); and in response to the communication type being the PCIe, configuring, by the host device, connection terminals of the host device according to the PCIe and transmitting a signal to the storage device, the signal indicating one of a single-port PCIe and a dual-port PCIe.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the storage device comprises nonvolatile memory devices.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the detecting that the storage device is hot plugged into the host device comprises detecting that a voltage of a detection node in the host device has change from a power supply voltage level to a ground voltage level.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the communication type of the storage device comprises receiving, at a connection terminal of the host device, one of a grounded signal and a floated signal from the storage device;
in response to receiving the grounded signal, determining that the communication type is the SATA; and in response to receiving the floated signal, determining that the communication type is the PCIe.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
