System and method for traffic decongestion

Abstract

A system and method for traffic decongestion allows users to bid for faster passage and faster journeys. The system and method allows autonomous, semi-autonomous or user-driven cars, to bid for faster passage for their journeys. Additionally, users willing to use slower journeys may be compensated for their contribution in reducing traffic congestion. In addition to reduction of traffic congestion, the system and method can even out road usage, minimize road wear, give municipalities a new revenue stream, and save users time currently wasted by traffic.

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows: 
     
         1 . A system for advanced travel, comprising:
 a communication device for providing a bid for a desired travel route; and,   a control unit for receiving the bid and rendering a decision whether to award the desired travel route based on the bid.   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 at least one sensor that provides traffic-related intelligence, wherein the control unit includes the traffic-related intelligence in making the decision whether to award the desired travel route.   
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein the at least one sensor is from the group of ground-based, roadway-based and satellite-based sensors. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the communication device is from the group of computer, mobile phone, tablet computer, a dedicated computer, a smart watch, other wearable computer and kiosk. 
     
     
         5 . A method for travel along a desired route, comprising the steps of:
 selecting a desired travel route;   bidding on the desired travel route; and,   receiving a decision on whether the desired travel route was awarded.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , further comprising the step of buying a right to the desired travel route. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , further comprising the step of offering to resell the desired travel route. 
     
     
         8 . A method for advanced travel, comprising the steps of:
 entering a destination on a communication device;   receiving location information and destination information from the communication device;   verifying the location and destination information and user information;   identifying a route based on the location and destination information; and,   allocating the route to the user.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 8  further comprising the steps of:
 placing a bid by the user for the route; 
 deciding whether to award the route to the user based on the bid.
