Low eructation composition and methods for treating and/or preventing cardiovascular disease in a subject with fish allergy/hypersensitivity

Abstract

In various embodiments, the present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions and methods for treating cardiovascular-related disease.

1 . A method of preventing stroke or myocardial infarction in a subject in need thereof, comprising: providing a subject who is allergic to or hypersensitive to fish or seafood, is on statin therapy and has a baseline triglyceride level of at least 150 mg/dl; and administering daily to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising about 4 g of ethyl eicosapentaenoate, wherein the pharmaceutical composition is substantially free of fish protein and is encapsulated in one or more capsules. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the subject has or is at risk for developing a cardiovascular-related disease. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the subject has coronary heart disease or hypertension. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3  wherein the subject does not develop skin rash after administration of the pharmaceutical composition. 
     
     
         5 . A method of treating hypertriglyceridemia in a subject in need thereof, comprising: (a) providing a subject who has a fasting baseline triglyceride level of at least about 500 mg/dl and who is allergic to fish or seafood, and (b) administering daily to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising about 4 g of ethyl eicosapentaenoate, wherein the pharmaceutical composition is substantially free of fish protein and is encapsulated in one or more capsules. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5  wherein the subject has or is at risk for developing a cardiovascular-related disease. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6  wherein the subject has coronary heart disease or hypertension. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7  wherein the subject does not develop skin rash after administration of the pharmaceutical composition.
