Claims

Abstract

A method for treating laminitis (and/or for preventing or treating lameness) in hooved animals, comprising: preparing a medicament comprising a topical anti-inflammatory solution; and applying the medicament to hooves of the animals via an automated animal treatment system. In certain embodiments, the topical anti-inflammatory solution comprises magnesium sulfate, preferably 1.5% to 7.5% magnesium sulfate.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for treating laminitis in hooved animals, the method comprising the steps of:
 preparing a medicament comprising a topical anti-inflammatory solution; and   applying the medicament to hooves of the animals via an automated animal treatment system.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the topical anti-inflammatory solution comprises magnesium sulfate. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the topical anti-inflammatory solution comprises 1.5% to 7.5% magnesium sulfate. 
     
     
         4 . A method for preventing or treating lameness in hooved animals, the method comprising the steps of:
 preparing a medicament comprising a topical anti-inflammatory solution; and   applying the medicament to hooves of the animals via an automated animal treatment system.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4  wherein the topical anti-inflammatory solution comprises magnesium sulfate. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5  wherein the topical anti-inflammatory solution comprises 1.5% to 7.5% magnesium sulfate. 
     
     
         7 . A medicament for preventing or treating lameness in hooved animals, the medicament comprising 1.5% to 7.5% magnesium sulfate in solution.
