Abstract

In a general aspect, motion is detected using wireless signals. In one example, beamforming dynamic information is obtained based on a set of wireless signals transmitted through a space from a first wireless communication device to a second wireless communication device. Motion of an object in the space is detected based on the beamforming dynamic information.

         31 . A method, comprising:
 obtaining, at a client device in a wireless communication network, channel information based on a set of wireless signals transmitted through a space, from an access point device in the wireless communication network, to the client device; and   detecting, by operation of the client device, motion of an object in the space based on the channel information.   
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 31 , comprising:
 by operation of the client device, transmitting to the access point device a request for the access point device to transmit the set of wireless signals.   
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 32 , wherein the request comprises a wireless standard protocol message including at least one of:
 a null data packet frame;   a beamforming request;   a ping; or   standard data traffic.   
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein the channel information comprises channel state information. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein the channel information comprises beamforming dynamic information. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein obtaining the channel information comprises:
 receiving, at the client device, the set of wireless signals from the access point device; and   processing, at the client device, the set of wireless signal to obtain the channel information.   
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein obtaining the channel information comprises:
 receiving, at the client device, the channel information from the access point device.   
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 31 , comprising:
 transmitting, by the client device to a server, motion detection information indicative of the motion of the object.   
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein the access point device is not configured to detect motion of the object in the space. 
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein the wireless communication network is a wireless local area network (WLAN), and the set of wireless signals are transmitted from a wireless access point (WAP) according to a wireless network standard. 
     
     
         41 . The method of claim  39 A, wherein the wireless communication network is a Wi-Fi network, and the wireless access point is a Wi-Fi access point. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein the motion of the object is detected by operation of motion detection software on the client device. 
     
     
         43 . A client device in a wireless communication network, the client device comprising:
 a processor; and   memory comprising instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the client device to perform operations comprising:
 obtaining channel information based on a set of wireless signals transmitted through a space, from an access point device in the wireless communication network, to the client device; and 
 detecting motion of an object in the space based on the channel information. 
   
     
     
         44 . The client device of  claim 43 , the operations further comprising:
 transmitting to the access point device a request for the access point device to transmit the set of wireless signals.   
     
     
         45 . The client device of  claim 44 , wherein the request comprises a wireless standard protocol message including at least one of:
 a null data packet frame;   a beamforming request;   a ping; or   standard data traffic.   
     
     
         46 . The client device of  claim 43 , wherein the channel information comprises channel state information. 
     
     
         47 . The client device of  claim 43 , wherein the channel information comprises beamforming dynamic information. 
     
     
         48 . The client device of  claim 43 , wherein obtaining the channel information comprises:
 receiving the set of wireless signals from the access point device; and   processing the set of wireless signal to obtain the channel information.   
     
     
         49 . The client device of  claim 43 , wherein obtaining the channel information comprises:
 receiving the channel information from the access point device.   
     
     
         50 . The client device of  claim 43 , the operations further comprising:
 transmitting, to a server, motion detection information indicative of the motion of the object.   
     
     
         51 . The client device of  claim 43 , wherein the operations are performed by an operating system of the client device. 
     
     
         52 . The client device of  claim 43 , wherein the operations are performed by an application running on the client device. 
     
     
         53 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by data processing apparatus, perform operations comprising:
 obtaining, at a client device in a wireless communication network, channel information based on a set of wireless signals transmitted through a space, from an access point device in the wireless communication network, to the client device; and   detecting, by operation of the client device, motion of an object in the space based on the channel information.   
     
     
         54 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , the operations further comprising:
 by operation of the client device, transmitting to the access point device a request for the access point device to transmit the set of wireless signals.   
     
     
         55 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 54 , wherein the request comprises a wireless standard protocol message including at least one of:
 a null data packet frame;   a beamforming request;   a ping; or   standard data traffic.   
     
     
         56 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein the channel information comprises channel state information. 
     
     
         57 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein the channel information comprises beamforming dynamic information. 
     
     
         58 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein obtaining the channel information comprises:
 receiving, at the client device, the set of wireless signals from the access point device; and   processing, at the client device, the set of wireless signal to obtain the channel information.   
     
     
         59 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , wherein obtaining the channel information comprises:
 receiving, at the client device, the channel information from the access point device.   
     
     
         60 . The computer-readable medium of  claim 53 , the operations further comprising:
 transmitting, by the client device to a server, motion detection information indicative of the motion of the object.
