Cube coupling joint
Abstract
A joint assembly for joining structural members in a building frame can comprise: a marriage strap including one or more through-holes; one or more fasteners configured to be inserted through the one or more through-holes of the marriage strap; and a cube coupling joint including one or more recessed channels sized and shaped to receive a portion of the marriage strap, one or more fastener holes located within the one or more recessed channels and configured to receive and secure to the one or more fasteners. In some embodiments, the marriage strap is configured to be inserted into the one or more recessed channels of the cube coupling joint and the one or more fasteners are further configured to be inserted into and secured to the one or more fastener holes of the cube coupling joint.

6 . A cube coupling joint for joining structural members in a building frame, the cube coupling joint comprising a first surface, a second surface, a third surface, a fourth surface, a fifth surface, and a sixth surface, wherein:
the first surface comprises a first recessed channel configured to receive a portion of a first marriage strap, the first recessed channel comprising one or more fastener holes configured to align with one or more through-holes in the first marriage strap; and the second surface comprises a second recessed channel configured to receive a portion of a second marriage strap, the second recessed channel comprising one or more fastener holes configured to align with one or more through-holes in the second marriage strap; wherein none of the other surfaces of the cube coupling joint comprise recessed channels.
7 . The cube coupling joint of claim 6 , wherein the first and second surfaces are adjacent to one another and meet along an edge of the cube coupling joint.
8 . The cube coupling joint of claim 7 , wherein the first recessed channel is L-shaped and the second recessed channel is L-shaped, and wherein a first end of the first recessed channel meets with a second end of the second recessed channel at the edge of the cube coupling joint.
9 . The cube coupling joint of claim 6 , wherein the first recessed channel comprises a first cross-section having a first side, a second side, and a third side in between the first and second sides, the first and second sides being parallel to each other and perpendicular to the third side and perpendicular to the first surface of the cube coupling joint.
10 . The cube coupling joint of claim 9 , wherein the second recessed channel comprises a second cross-section having a fourth side, a fifth side, and a sixth side in between the fourth and fifth sides, the fourth and fifth sides being parallel to each other and perpendicular to the sixth side and perpendicular to the second surface of the cube coupling joint.
11 . The cube coupling joint of claim 6 , further comprising an alignment hole extending inwards from the third surface a first distance, the first distance being less than a height of the cube coupling joint, wherein the alignment hole is configured to receive an alignment pin, the alignment pin configured to permit alignment of another cube coupling joint.
12 . A cube coupling joint for joining structural members in a building frame, the cube coupling joint comprising:
a first face, a second face, a third face, a fourth face, a fifth face, and a sixth face; wherein the first face comprises a first recessed channel having a first end and a second end, the first recessed channel comprising one or more fastener holes; wherein the second face is adjacent and perpendicular to the first face and comprises a second recessed channel having a first end and a second end, the second recessed channel comprising one or more fastener holes; and wherein the first end of the second recessed channel meets the first end of the first recessed channel along a first edge of the cube coupling joint.
13 . The cube coupling joint of claim 12 , wherein the first recessed channel comprises a first portion having a first length and a second portion having a second length, and wherein the first portion of the first recessed channel is perpendicular to the second portion of the first recessed channel.
14 . The cube coupling joint of claim 13 , wherein the second recessed channel comprises a first portion having a first length and a second portion having a second length, wherein the first portion of the second recessed channel is perpendicular to the second portion of the second recessed channel.
15 . The cube coupling joint of claim 12 , wherein the one or more fastener holes of the first and second recessed channels are threaded.
16 . The cube coupling joint of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the first recessed channel and the second recessed channel is L-shaped.
17 . The cube coupling joint of claim 12 , wherein:
the second end of the first recessed channel is positioned along a second edge of the cube coupling joint that is perpendicular to the first edge of the cube coupling joint; and the second end of the first recessed channel is spaced from the first edge of the cube coupling joint.
18 . The cube coupling joint of claim 17 , wherein the second end of the first recessed channel is spaced from the first edge of the cube coupling joint by a distance that is greater than or equal to a width of the second end of the first recessed channel.
19 . The cube coupling joint of claim 12 , wherein the cube coupling joint is substantially solid.
20 . A cube coupling joint for joining structural members in a building frame, the cube coupling joint comprising:
a first face, a second face, a third face, a fourth face, a fifth face, and a sixth face; wherein the first face comprises a first recessed channel having a first cross-section, the first cross-section comprising a first side, a second side opposite and parallel to the first side of the first cross-section, and a base connected and perpendicular to the first and second sides of the first cross-section; wherein the second face is adjacent and perpendicular to the first face and comprises a second recessed channel having a second cross-section, the second cross-section comprising a first side, a second side opposite and parallel to the first side of the second cross-section, and a base connected and perpendicular to the first and second sides of the second cross-section; and wherein a first end of the first recessed channel meets a first end of the second recessed channel at an edge of the cube coupling joint.
21 . The cube coupling joint of claim 20 , wherein the first recessed channel comprises a first portion having a first length and a second portion having a second length, and wherein the first portion of the first recessed channel is perpendicular to the second portion of the first recessed channel.
22 . The cube coupling joint of claim 21 , wherein the second recessed channel comprises a first portion having a first length and a second portion having a second length, wherein the first portion of the second recessed channel is perpendicular to the second portion of the second recessed channel.
23 . The cube coupling joint of claim 20 , further comprising at least one fastener hole in the first recessed channel and at least one fastener hole in the second recessed channel.
24 . The cube coupling joint of claim 23 , wherein the at least one fastener hole in the first recessed channel is threaded and wherein the at least one fastener hole in the second recessed channel is threaded.
