Abstract

A stemless humeral component for replacing the humeral head of a patient's humerus includes a support flange having a number of cantilevered legs extending distally away from a bottom surface thereof. Instruments and methods for surgically installing the stemless humeral component are also disclosed.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A surgical instrument for use during a surgical procedure to implant a stemless humeral component to replace a humeral head of a patient's humerus, comprising:
a sizing instrument having a generally round body with a number of punch guide holes formed therein, wherein each of the punch guide holes is positioned in a location that aligns with a number of legs of the stemless humeral component.

2 . The surgical instrument of claim 1 , wherein:
the sizing instrument has an upper surface and a lower surface, each of the punch guide holes extends from the upper surface to the lower surface, and the sizing instrument further includes a number of bone-engaging spikes extending downwardly from its lower surface.

3 . The surgical instrument of claim 2 , wherein each of the punch guide holes of the sizing instrument is generally T-shaped.

4 . The surgical instrument of claim 2 , wherein:
the round body of the sizing instrument is generally dome-shaped having a flattened upper surface and a planar opposite, lower surface, and an elongated drill guide bore extends through a center of the sizing instrument from the upper surface to the lower surface.

5 . The surgical instrument of claim 1 , wherein the sizing instrument further includes a connector configured to secure the sizing instrument to an alignment handle.
