System and method for initiating an emergency response

Abstract

A system and method for initiating a personal emergency response is disclosed. The method can include receiving an emergency communication via a virtual assistant, spoken by a user and an urgent situation or an emergency situation. The emergency communication can be processed to determine the nature of the emergency communication and translate the emergency communication into an emergency data message having a digital representation of information related to the emergency communication. If the emergency communication indicates an urgent situation, the system can contact an emergency contact based on stored user preferences. If the emergency communication indicates an emergency situation, then the system can aid in the dispatch of emergency services and provide information about the user to provide a measured response to the emergency communication.

         21 . A method for communicating a personal communication for an emergency response via a device associated with a user premises, comprising:
 storing personal information about a user in a computer memory, the personal information including a location of the user;   receiving an emergency communication by a virtual assistant executed by a device physically coupled to the user premises, the emergency communication provided to the virtual assistant by the user in the user premises;   processing the emergency communication to translate the emergency communication into an emergency data message that includes information related to the emergency communication;   appending the location of the user to the emergency data message; and   transmitting the emergency data message to one or more emergency responder devices.   
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the one or more emergency responder devices comprises a dispatcher device at a public safety answering point (PSAP). 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein emergency data message is transmitted as one of a text message and an automated phone call. 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein processing the emergency communication comprises determining a nature of an emergency corresponding to the emergency communication, wherein the nature of the emergency is appended to the emergency data message. 
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising receiving data from one or more internet of things (IoT) devices communicatively coupled to the virtual assistant. 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 21 , further comprising generating a confirmation communication by the virtual assistant and providing the confirmation communication to the user by the device. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the voice processing system comprises a natural language-understanding service and one or more of a speech-to-text service and a text-to-speech service. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 21 , wherein the emergency data message is transmitted via one of a public switched telephone network (PSTN) of a communication network. 
     
     
         29 . A method for requesting an emergency medical response from a user premises, the method comprising:
 receiving a communication from the user by a virtual assistant corresponding to the user premises;   generating a data message including a digital representation of information related to the communication,   appending a location of the user to the data message; and   transmitting the data message, by one or more processors, via a communication network to one or more emergency responder devices.   
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the one or more emergency responder devices comprises a dispatcher device at a public safety answering point (PSAP) a dispatcher device at a public safety answering point (PSAP). 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein the data message is transmitted as one of a text message and an automated phone call. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprises determining a nature of an emergency corresponding to the communication and appending the nature of the emergency to the data message. 
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising receiving data from one or more internet of things (IoT) devices communicatively coupled to the virtual assistant. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising generating a confirmation communication by the virtual assistant and providing the confirmation communication to the user by the device. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising determining a location of the user based on a physical location of the device. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 29 , further comprising transmitting the data message to an emergency responder device of an emergency responder dispatched by the PSAP via a text message. 
     
     
         37 . A device for communicating a personal communication, from a user premises, for an emergency response, the device comprising:
 a memory; and   one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory and operable to
 store personal information about a user in a computer memory, the personal information including a location of the user, 
 receive a communication from a user by a virtual assistant within the user premises, 
 generate a data message including a digital representation of information related to the communication, 
 append the location of the user to the data message, and 
 transmit the data message via a communication network to one or more emergency responder devices, 
   wherein the device is associated with the user premises.   
     
     
         38 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to determine a location of the user based on a physical location of the device. 
     
     
         39 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:
 determine a nature of an emergency corresponding to the communication, and   append the nature of the emergency to the data message.   
     
     
         40 . The device of  claim 37 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to generate a confirmation communication by the virtual assistant and provide the confirmation communication to the user.
