Abstract

Compositions that are aqueous suspensions of cyclosporin and contain a cyclosporin (e.g., cyclosporin A), a pharmaceutically acceptable water soluble solvent for the cyclosporin, a dispersing agent, a suspending agent and an aqueous vehicle are disclosed. Methods of producing such compositions, as well as methods of using the compositions to treat ophthalmic disorders are also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising: cyclosporin A, a formulation aid, water, and 1) a dispersing agent, 2) a suspending agent, or 3) a combination thereof. 
     
     
         2 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the formulation aid is a polyethylene glycol. 
     
     
         3 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the formulation aid is a tyloxapol. 
     
     
         4 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the formulation aid is glycerin. 
     
     
         5 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the formulation aid is benzyl alcohol. 
     
     
         6 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the formulation aid is a poloxamer. 
     
     
         7 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the formulation aid is ethanol. 
     
     
         8 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the suspending agent is a hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof. 
     
     
         9 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the suspending agent is a carbomer. 
     
     
         10 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the suspending agent is acacia. 
     
     
         11 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the suspending agent is hypromellose. 
     
     
         12 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the suspending agent is a xanthan gum. 
     
     
         13 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the suspending agent is a povidone. 
     
     
         14 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , further comprising sorbitol. 
     
     
         15 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , further comprising mannitol. 
     
     
         16 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , further comprising sodium chloride. 
     
     
         17 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , further comprising edetate disodium. 
     
     
         18 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , further comprising benzalkonium chloride. 
     
     
         19 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , comprising cydosporin, polyethylene glycol 300, sodium hyaluronate, tyloxapol, glycerin, and water. 
     
     
         20 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , comprising cyclosporin, polyethylene glycol 300, benzyl alcohol, carbomer homopolymer type B, tyloxapol, sorbitol, and water. 
     
     
         21 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , comprising, cyclosporin, polyethylene glycol 300, carbomer homopolymer type B, acacia, tyloxapol, poloxamer, mannitol, and water. 
     
     
         22 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , comprising cyclosporin, polyethylene glycol 300, ethanol, xanthan gum, povidone K-90, tyloxapol, and water. 
     
     
         23 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , comprising cydosporin, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol 3350, hypromellose, tyloxapol, poloxamer, and water.
