Claims

Abstract

A portable water filtration system that is configured to provide potable water from a contaminated water source. The portable water filtration system includes a pre-treatment module and a polishing module that are fluidly coupled and contained within a stackable housing configuration. The pre-treatment module has disposed therein a pump, two solenoid valves, a first filter and a pair of ultra-filters wherein the aforementioned elements are all fluidly coupled utilizing plastic tubing. Water is cycled through the elements of the pre-treatment module and is then directed to the polishing module. Disposed within the polishing module are four filters that have filtration material therein operable to filter material within a range of 0.0002 to 0.0009 microns. The portable water filtration system is operable in a filtration mode and a flush mode.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A portable water filtration system configured to create potable water from a contaminated water source comprising:
 a pre-treatment module, said pre-treatment module having a housing, said housing configured to provide access to an interior volume of said housing, said pre-treatment module having disposed in said interior volume a pump, said pump configured to control the flow of water through the portable water filtration system, said pre-treatment module having a first filter, said first filter being operably coupled to said pump, said pre-treatment module further including at least one second filter, said at least one second filter operably coupled to said first filter;   a polishing module, said polishing module having a housing, said polishing module having an interior volume, said polishing module being fluidly coupled to said pre-treatment module, said polishing module having an inlet configured to receive fluid from said pre-treatment module, said polishing module having a plurality of filters, said plurality of filters being fluidly coupled to said inlet, said plurality of filters configured to provide further filtration of water passing therethrough, said polishing module having an outlet, said outlet operable to direct water to a container for capture thereof; and   wherein water passing through the portable water filtration system has a flow path such that the flow path of water enters the pre-treatment module and is subsequently directed to the polishing module prior to being directed out of the portable water filtration system.   
     
     
         2 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 1 , wherein said first filter include filtration material configured to filter material between 1 to 10 microns. 
     
     
         3 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 2 , and further including a first solenoid valve and a second solenoid valve, said first solenoid valve and said second solenoid valve operable to control the flow path of the water through the water filtration system. 
     
     
         4 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 3 , wherein the portable water filtration system includes a filtration mode and a flush mode, wherein in said filtration mode the flow path of water through the portable water filtration system is different than the flow path of water during the flush mode. 
     
     
         5 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 4 , wherein the polishing module further includes two manifold style unions configured to direct the flow path of water to the plurality of filters disposed therein. 
     
     
         6 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 5 , wherein said plurality of filters disposed in said polishing module have filtration material configured to filter material within a range of 0.0002 to 0.0009 microns. 
     
     
         7 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 6 , wherein said pre-treatment module further includes a power supply disposed therein. 
     
     
         8 . A portable water filtration system configured to create potable water from a contaminated water source comprising:
 a pre-treatment module, said pre-treatment module having a housing, said pre-treatment module having an interior volume, said housing configured to provide access to said interior volume, said pre-treatment module having an inlet, said inlet configured to receive water from a contaminated source;   a pump, said pump being disposed within said interior volume of said pre-treatment module, said pump being operably coupled to said inlet, said pump configured to control the flow of water through the portable water filtration system, said pump configured to control the flow of water in a first direction and a second direction;   a first filter, said first filter being fluidly coupled to said pump, said first filter having a removable filtration cartridge, said first filter configured to receive water from said pump,   two ultra-filters, said two ultra-filters being disposed within the interior volume of said pre-treatment module, said two ultra-filters being fluidly coupled to said first filter;   an outlet, said outlet being fluidly coupled to said two ultra-filters, said outlet configured to direct water outward from said pre-treatment module;   a polishing module, said polishing module having a housing, said polishing module having an interior volume, said polishing module being fluidly coupled to said outlet of said pre-treatment module, said polishing module having an inlet configured to receive fluid from said pre-treatment module, said polishing module having a plurality of filters, said plurality of filters being fluidly coupled to said inlet, said plurality of filters configured to provide further filtration of water passing therethrough, said polishing module having an outlet, said outlet operable to direct water to a container for capture thereof; and   wherein the portable water filtration system is operable in a filtration mode and a flush mode and wherein in said filtration mode and said flush mode the pump is operable to direct flow path of the water in alternate directions.   
     
     
         8 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 7 , wherein said first filter include filtration material configured to filter material between 1 to 10 microns. 
     
     
         9 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 8 , wherein said two ultra-filters include filtration material configured to filter material within a range of 0.01 to 0.001 microns. 
     
     
         10 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 9 , wherein said plurality of filters disposed in said polishing module have filtration material configured to filter material within a range of 0.0002 to 0.0009 microns. 
     
     
         11 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the plurality of filters disposed in said polishing case further include a coupling, said coupling configured to receive a tubing thereon, said coupling operable to direct fluid into said plurality of filters when the portable water filtration system is in said flush mode. 
     
     
         12 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 11 , and further including a first solenoid valve disposed in said pre-treatment module, said first solenoid valve operable to control the flow path of the water through the water filtration system. 
     
     
         13 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 12 , wherein said pre-treatment module further includes a power supply disposed therein. 
     
     
         14 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 13 , wherein the housing of the pre-treatment module is releasable secured to the housing of the polishing module. 
     
     
         15 . A portable water filtration system configured to create potable water from a contaminated water source comprising:
 a pre-treatment module, said pre-treatment module having a housing, said pre-treatment module having an interior volume, said housing configured to provide access to said interior volume, said pre-treatment module having an inlet, said inlet configured to receive water from a contaminated source;   a pump, said pump being disposed within said interior volume of said pre-treatment module, said pump being operably coupled to said inlet, said pump configured to control the flow of water through the portable water filtration system, said pump configured to control the flow of water in a first direction and a second direction;   a first filter, said first filter being fluidly coupled to said pump, said first filter having a removable filtration cartridge, said first filter configured to receive water from said pump;   a first solenoid valve, said first solenoid valve being intermediate said pump and said first filter and further being fluidly coupled therewith;   two ultra-filters, said two ultra-filters being disposed within the interior volume of said pre-treatment module, said two ultra-filters being fluidly coupled to said first filter;   an outlet, said outlet being fluidly coupled to said two ultra-filters, said outlet configured to direct water outward from said pre-treatment module;   a polishing module, said polishing module having a housing, said polishing module having an interior volume, said polishing module being fluidly coupled to said outlet of said pre-treatment module, said polishing module having an inlet configured to receive fluid from said pre-treatment module;   four filters, said four filters being cylindrical in shape, said four filters having a first end and a second end, said four filters being fluidly coupled to said inlet, said four filters configured to provide further filtration of water passing therethrough;   an outlet, said outlet configured to receive water exiting said four filters, said outlet operable to direct water to a container for capture thereof; and   wherein the portable water filtration system is operable in a filtration mode and a flush mode and wherein in said filtration mode and said flush mode the pump is operable to direct flow path of the water in alternate directions.   
     
     
         16 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 15 , wherein said four filters disposed in said polishing module have filtration material configured to filter material within a range of 0.0002 to 0.0009 microns. 
     
     
         17 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 16 , wherein said two ultra-filters include filtration material configured to filter material within a range of 0.01 to 0.001 microns. 
     
     
         18 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 17 , wherein said first filter include filtration material configured to filter material between 1 to 10 microns. 
     
     
         19 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 18 , wherein the polishing module further includes a first manifold style union and a second manifold style union, said first manifold style union and said second manifold style union operably coupled to said four filters. 
     
     
         20 . The portable water filtration system as recited in  claim 19 , wherein said pre-treatment module further includes a power supply disposed therein.
