Systems and Methods of Recovering Household Waste

Abstract

In certain embodiments, a system includes at least one optical sensor configured to capture one or more optical data associated with packaging of a waste product and a processor coupled to the at least one optical sensor. The processor may be configured to determine information about the waste product based on the optical data and send a signal corresponding to the information to one of a destination device and a controller based on the determined information.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system comprising:
 a processor to:
 receive optical data associated with a waste product; 
 determine composition data associated with the waste product based on the received optical data; 
 determine a bin of a plurality of bins based on the content data, each bin of the plurality of bins to store items having similar compositions; 
 sort the waste product into the bin. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising one or more optical sensors coupled to the processor, the one or more optical sensors to determine the optical data associated with the waste product. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising a scale coupled to the processor, the scale to determine weight information associated with the waste product. 
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:
 extract data from the optical data;   automatically identify the product based on the extracted data; and   automatically determine the composition data from one or more data sources.   
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a communications interface coupled to the processor and configured to communicate with a destination device through a network; and   wherein the processor is configured to:   generate an interface including information related to one or more of the optical data, the composition data, and the bin; and   provide the interface to the destination device, the interface accessible by an operator to review the information.
