Abstract
Adhesive compositions and patches, and associated systems, kits, and methods, are generally described. Certain of the adhesive compositions and patches can be used to treat tissues (e.g., in hemostatic or other tissue treatment applications), according to certain embodiments.

1 . An adhesive matrix comprising at least one polyacrylic acid, wherein:
at least about 75 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of the at least one polyacrylic acid; less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of liquid; and the adhesive matrix is self-supporting.
2 . An adhesive matrix comprising at least one polyacrylic acid, wherein:
at least about 50 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of the at least one polyacrylic acid; less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of liquid; and the adhesive matrix has:
a burst strength of at least about 100 mmHg pressure; and/or
a lap shear adhesive strength of at least about 1 pound force.

52 . A method of forming an adhesive matrix, comprising:
establishing a mixture comprising at least one non-aqueous solvent and at least one polyacrylic acid on a substrate to form a deposit of the mixture on the substrate, wherein:
the mixture contains the at least one non-aqueous solvent in an amount of from about 50 wt. % to about 99.9 wt. %;
the mixture contains the at least one polyacrylic acid in an amount of from about 0.1 wt. % to about 50 wt. %; and
at least a portion of the at least one non-aqueous solvent is evaporated from the deposit to produce the adhesive matrix on the substrate.

94 . The adhesive matrix of claim 1 , wherein the at least one polyacrylic acid is cross-linked.
95 . The adhesive matrix of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive matrix contains alcohol in an amount of between about 0.001 wt. % and about 3 wt. %.
96 . The adhesive matrix of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive matrix contains less than or equal to about 1 wt. % water.
97 . The adhesive matrix of claim 1 , wherein at least about 95 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of the at least one polyacrylic acid.
98 . The adhesive matrix of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive matrix is disposed on a substrate comprising small intestinal submucosa, fibrin, diaphragm, porcine skin, bovine skin, human skin, pericardium, extracellular matrix collagen, and/or amnion.
99 . The adhesive matrix of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive matrix is disposed on a substrate comprising small intestinal submucosa.
100 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix is self-supporting.
101 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the at least one polyacrylic acid is cross-linked.
102 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix further comprises a polyol or a non-ionic surfactant.
103 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix contains alcohol in an amount of between about 0.001 wt. % and about 3 wt. %.
104 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix contains less than or equal to about 1 wt. % water.
105 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein at least about 95 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of the at least one polyacrylic acid.
106 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix is disposed on a substrate comprising small intestinal submucosa, fibrin, diaphragm, porcine skin, bovine skin, human skin, pericardium, extracellular matrix collagen, and/or amnion.
107 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix is disposed on a substrate comprising small intestinal submucosa.
108 . The adhesive matrix of claim 2 , wherein the adhesive matrix has a burst strength of at least about 100 mmHg pressure.
