Abstract

Approaches are provided for creating a new control tab associated with the at least one main area display, rubber-banding or lassoing a first selected area from the at least one main area display; dragging the first selected area to the new control tab to create of a list of electronic network elements that are disposed within the first selected area, and obtaining vital information associated with the electronic network elements on the list and presenting the list and the vital information to an operator at a user interface.

Claims

What is claimed is:

       What is claimed is:

         1 . A method, the method comprising:
obtaining at least one main area display; by an operator, creating a new control tab associated with the at least one main area display; by an operator, rubber-banding or lassoing a first selected area from the at least one main area display; by an operator, dragging the first selected area to the new control tab, wherein the dragging is effective to automatically cause, by a system comprising a processor, a creation of a list of electronic network elements that are disposed within the first selected area; by the processor, obtaining vital information associated with the electronic network elements on the list and presenting the list and the vital information to an operator at a user interface; by the processor, subsequently, updating the vital information that is being presented to the operator.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the network elements comprise each station and each line within a boundary of the first selected area.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the vital information comprises a state of a line, an energization status of a line, a MegaWatt flow, a MegaVar flow, a station load, or a station generation.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the creation of the list by the processor comprises identifying the network elements within a boundary of the selected area.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the rubber-banding or lassoing is accomplished using a computer mouse.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising associating a name with the list.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising a MVar reserve tab, wherein the MegaVar reserve tab includes names of dynamically created MegaVar reserve areas.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the network elements comprise one or more of a substation, a generator, a capacitor, a load, a transformer, or a static Var compensator and inductor.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising rubber-banding or lassoing a second selected area from the at least one main area display, wherein low or high voltage conditions of the second selected area are desired to be managed using volt ampere reactive (VAR) reserves available.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the processor determines locations and amounts of the VAR reserves available within the second selected area.

         11 . A system, the system comprising:
a memory that comprises executable components; a processor, communicatively coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute or facilitate the execution of the executable competent store perform operations, comprising: receiving an indication that a first selected area from at least one main area display has been dragged or dropped by an operator, the first selected area having been rubber-banded or lassoed by an operator; creating a list of electronic network elements that are disposed within the first selected area; obtaining vital information associated with the electronic network elements on the list and presenting the list and the vital information to an operator at a user interface; subsequently, updating the vital information that is being presented to the operator.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the network elements comprise each station and each line within a boundary of the first selected area.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the vital information comprises a state of a line, an energization status of a line, a MegaWatt flow, a MegaVar flow, a station load, or a station generation.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the creation of the list by the processor comprises identifying the network elements within a boundary of the selected area.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the rubber-banding or lassoing is accomplished using a computer mouse.

16 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising associating a name with the list.

17 . The system of claim 11 , further comprising a MegaVar reserve tab, wherein the MegaVar reserve tab includes names of dynamically created MegaVar reserve areas.

18 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the network elements comprise one or more of a substation, a generator, a capacitor, a load, a transformer, or a static Var compensator and inductor.

19 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the operator rubber-bands or lassos a second selected area from the at least one main area display, wherein low or high voltage conditions of the second selected area are desired to be managed using volt ampere reactive (VAR) available.

20 . The system of claim 19 , wherein the processor determines locations and amounts of the VAR reserves available within the second selected area.
