Methods and devices for laparoscopic surgery

Abstract

Two part laparoscopic tools and surgical methods using such tools are presented. The tools and methods enable use of multiple surgical tools each having wide tool heads to be used in a body cavity using a single wide trocar and one or more narrow incisions, thereby reducing surgical risk and enhancing patient comfort and shortening recovery time. Additional instruments for facilitating laparoscopic surgery are also presented.

         2 . A surgical tool comprising:
 an operating head comprising an internal portion having interior threads and an external portion having interior threads; and   a shaft comprising an internal rod having exterior threads and an external rod having exterior threads,   wherein the exterior threads of the internal rod are configured to couple to the interior threads of the internal portion of the operating head, and the exterior threads of the external rod are configured to couple to the couple to the interior threads of the external portion of the operating head.   
     
     
         3 . The surgical tool of  claim 2 , wherein the internal rod comprises a pointed tip. 
     
     
         4 . The surgical tool of  claim 2 , wherein the operating head comprises a grasper having a pair of jaws, and relative movement between the internal rod and the external rod open and close the grasper. 
     
     
         5 . The surgical tool of  claim 2 , wherein the operating head comprises a pivoting mechanism that actuates the operating head. 
     
     
         6 . The surgical tool of  claim 3 , wherein a first portion of the pivoting mechanism is connected to the internal portion and a second portion of the pivoting mechanism is connected to the exterior portion. 
     
     
         7 . The surgical tool of  claim 2 , further comprising a handle having a first leg connected to the internal rod and a second leg connected to the external rod.
