Abstract

Embodiments include a device comprising an interface module for interfacing with proprietary legacy systems. The interface module comprises a data interface for interfacing with a processing component of the legacy system, where the processing component uses a proprietary protocol for processing data of the legacy system. The interface module includes a protocol module that comprises a protocol corresponding to the proprietary protocol of the legacy system, and the interface module uses the protocol to exchange data with the processing component. The interface module includes a communication device that communicates with a remote system via a wireless channel. The interface module controls communications that include passing commands from the remote system to the legacy system, and passing event data of the legacy system to the remote system.

1 . A method comprising:
 receiving, from one or more premises devices via a first communication protocol, premises device data;   sending, to a computing device via a second communication protocol, an indication of the premises device data, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol;   receiving, from the computing device, an indication of a premises device command; and   sending, to the one or more premises devices via the first communication protocol, the premises device command.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving, from the one or more premises devices via the first communication protocol and based on the sending the premises device command, additional premises device data; and   sending, to the computing device via the second communication protocol, an indication of the additional premises device data.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the sending the premises device command causes the one or more premises devices to at least one of execute the premises device command, schedule an operation, automate an operation, send data, or generate data. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more premises devices comprise at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, or a security system panel. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the computing device comprises at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, a security system panel, a network server, a web server, a system database, an application server, a central monitoring system, a remote control device, a remote monitoring device, a remote management device, an intermediate device, or a communication device. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the first communication protocol comprises at least one of a serial protocol, a wireless communication protocol, a wired communication protocol, a radio frequency (RF) protocol, a Wi-Fi protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, or a Zigbee protocol. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the second communication protocol comprises at least one of a serial protocol, a wireless communication protocol, a wired communication protocol, a radio frequency (RF) protocol, a Wi-Fi protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, or a Zigbee protocol, a cellular protocol, a High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) protocol, a Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol, a third Generation (3G) protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, a Zigbee protocol, an Internet protocol, or a plain old telephone service (POTS) protocol. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the receiving the premises device data comprises receiving, by a proxy device configured to communicate with the one or more premises devices and the computing device, the premises device data. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the premises device data is associated with at least one of a premises event, a polling response, an operation executed by the one or more premises devices, an operation executed by a component of a premises system, a state of a premises system, or a state of the one or more premises devices. 
     
     
         10 . A method comprising:
 receiving, from a computing device via a first communication protocol, an indication of a premises device command associated with one or more premises devices;   based on the indication of the premises device command, sending, to the one or more premises devices, via a second communication protocol, the premises device command, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol;   receiving, from the one or more premises devices, premises device data; and   sending, to the computing device via the first communication protocol, an indication of the premises device data.   
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the indication of the premises device command comprises an indication of at least one of a schedule, an automation, a request for data, a function, or an operation. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the premises device data is associated with at least one of a premises event, a polling response, an operation executed by the one or more premises devices, an operation executed by a component of a premises system, a state of a premises system, or a state of the one or more premises devices. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the second communication protocol comprises at least one of a serial protocol, a wireless communication protocol, a wired communication protocol, a radio frequency (RF) protocol, a Wi-Fi protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, or a Zigbee protocol. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the first communication protocol comprises at least one of a serial protocol, a wireless communication protocol, a wired communication protocol, a radio frequency (RF) protocol, a Wi-Fi protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, or a Zigbee protocol, a cellular protocol, a High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) protocol, a Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol, a third Generation (3G) protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, a Zigbee protocol, an Internet protocol, or a plain old telephone service (POTS) protocol. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the receiving the indication of the premises device command comprises receiving, by a proxy device configured to communicate with the one or more premises devices and the computing device, the indication of the premises device command. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the one or more premises devices comprise at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, or a security system panel. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the computing device comprises at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, a security system panel, a network server, a web server, a system database, an application server, a central monitoring system, a remote control device, a remote monitoring device, a remote management device, an intermediate device, or a communication device. 
     
     
         18 . A device comprising:
 one or more processors; and   memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to:
 receive, from one or more premises devices via a first communication protocol, premises device data; 
 send, to a computing device via a second communication protocol, an indication of the premises device data, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol; 
 receive, from the computing device, an indication of a premises device command; and 
 send, to the one or more premises devices via the first communication protocol, the premises device command. 
   
     
     
         19 . The device of  claim 18 , wherein the instructions further cause the device to:
 receive, from the one or more premises devices via the first communication protocol and based on the sending the premises device command, additional premises device data; and   send, to the computing device via the second communication protocol, an indication of the additional premises device data.

The device of  claim 18 , wherein the instructions that cause the device to send the premises device command cause the device to cause the one or more premises devices to at least one of execute the premises device command, schedule an operation, automate an operation, send data, or generate data. 
     
     
         21 . The device of  claim 18 , wherein the one or more premises devices comprise at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, or a security system panel. 
     
     
         22 . The device of  claim 18 , wherein the computing device comprises at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, a security system panel, a network server, a web server, a system database, an application server, a central monitoring system, a remote control device, a remote monitoring device, a remote management device, an intermediate device, or a communication device. 
     
     
         23 . The device of  claim 18 , wherein the first communication protocol comprises at least one of a serial protocol, a wireless communication protocol, a wired communication protocol, a radio frequency (RF) protocol, a Wi-Fi protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, or a Zigbee protocol.

The device of  claim 18 , wherein the second communication protocol comprises at least one of a serial protocol, a wireless communication protocol, a wired communication protocol, a radio frequency (RF) protocol, a Wi-Fi protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, or a Zigbee protocol, a cellular protocol, a High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) protocol, a Long Term Evolution (LTE) protocol, a third Generation (3G) protocol, a Z-Wave protocol, a Zigbee protocol, an Internet protocol, or a plain old telephone service (POTS) protocol. 
     
     
         25 . The device of  claim 18 , wherein the instructions that cause the device to receive the premises device data cause the device to receive, by a proxy device configured to communicate with the one or more premises devices and the computing device, the premises device data.

The device of  claim 18 , wherein the premises device data is associated with at least one of a premises event, a polling response, an operation executed by the one or more premises devices, an operation executed by a component of a premises system, a state of a premises system, or a state of the one or more premises devices. 
     
     
         27 . A device comprising:
 one or more processors; and   memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to:
 receive, from a computing device via a first communication protocol, an indication of a premises device command associated with one or more premises devices; 
 based on the indication of the premises device command, send, to the one or more premises devices, via a second communication protocol, the premises device command, wherein the second communication protocol is different from the first communication protocol; 
 receive, from the one or more premises devices, premises device data; and 
 send, to the computing device via the first communication protocol, an indication of the premises device data. 
   
     
     
         28 . The device of  claim 27 , wherein the indication of the premises device command comprises an indication of at least one of a schedule, an automation, a request for data, a function, or an operation.

The device of  claim 27 , wherein the premises device data is associated with at least one of a premises event, a polling response, an operation executed by the one or more premises devices, an operation executed by a component of a premises system, a state of a premises system, or a state of the one or more premises devices.

The device of  claim 27 , wherein the instructions that cause the device to receive the indication of the premises device command cause the device to receive, by a proxy device configured to communicate with the one or more premises devices and the computing device, the indication of the premises device command. 
     
     
         33 . The device of  claim 27 , wherein the one or more premises devices comprise at least one of a gateway device, a security system device, a touchscreen device, a security system bus, or a security system panel.
