Abstract

Methods and systems for routing calls include determining media types within a received call from a caller, the media types being selected from voice, location, text, photo, video, and data. Emergency service providers are identified for the received based on the determined media information contained in the received call. The call is routed to at least one of the identified emergency service providers.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for routing received calls to emergency services providers, comprising:
 determining a plurality of media types within a received call from a caller, the media types being selected from the group consisting of voice, location, text, photo, video, and data;   identifying a plurality of emergency service providers for the received based on the determined media information contained in the received call; and   routing the call to at least one of the identified plurality of emergency service providers.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the routing comprises routing different media types within the call to different emergency service providers. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the routing of the different media types comprises routing based on the media type. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the received call further comprises biometric data. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the biometric data comprises at least one type of biometric data, the biometric data being selected from the group consisting of heart rate data, blood sugar data, and blood oxygen level data. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the call further includes audio information, the audio information being routed to an emergency service dispatcher and the biometric information being routed to a doctor. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising routing the call to a fallback emergency service dispatcher responsive to a determination that there is no emergency service provider that has a geographic service area that includes the location of the caller. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein routing the call to the emergency service providers comprises routing call contents and the location information to the emergency service providers. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein identifying a plurality of emergency service providers for a call based on the determined plurality of media types comprises determining emergency service providers that are prepared to handle each media type. 
     
     
         10 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising a computer readable program for routing calls directed to emergency service providers, wherein the computer readable program when executed on a computer causes the computer to perform the steps of:
 determining a plurality of media types within a call from a caller, the media types being selected from the group consisting of voice, location, text, photo, video, and data;   determining a plurality of emergency service providers for a call from the caller based information contained in the call; and   routing the call to the emergency service providers.   
     
     
         11 . A system for routing calls directed to emergency services providers, comprising:
 a hardware processor;   an incoming interface configured to receive an emergency services call from a caller through a communication service provider, the emergency services call having a plurality of media types, the plurality of media types being selected from the group consisting of voice, location, text, photo, video, and data, the incoming interface being configured to receive each of said plurality of media types;   an outgoing interface configured to send one or more of the plurality of media types of the emergency services call to a plurality of emergency service providers on a network;   a memory configured to store one or more modules that, when executed by the hardware processor, perform an associated function, including a routing module configured to identify the plurality of media types within the emergency services call, to determine one or more emergency service providers for the call based on information contained in the call, and to route the emergency services call to the determined one or more emergency service providers.   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the routing module is further configured to route different media types within the call to different emergency service providers. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 12 , wherein the routing module is further configured to route based on the identified media type. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the call includes biometric data. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the biometric data comprises at least one type of biometric data selected from the group consisting of heart rate data, blood sugar data, and blood oxygen level data. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the emergency services call further includes audio information, the audio information being routed to an emergency service dispatcher and the biometric information being routed to a doctor. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the routing module is further configured to route the call to a fallback destination responsive to a determination that there is no emergency service provider that has a geographic service area that includes the location of the caller. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the routing module is further configured to route the call over an emergency services IP network. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the incoming interface is configured to receive calls from a plurality of communication service providers and the outgoing interface module is configured to send calls to one or more of a plurality of networks. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the routing module is further configured to determine the plurality of emergency service providers for the call by determining emergency service providers that are prepared to handle each media type.
