Pharmaceutical formula for the treatment and/or prevention of arthritis and its manufacture

Abstract

This invention discloses a pharmaceutical formula for arthritis treatment and/or prevention. The formula contains the following raw materials: a selenium-containing inorganic compound and a zinc-containing inorganic compound. The pharmaceutical formula described herein could be manufactured for topic application and provide a faster and safer treatment for various inflammatory joint pains. Pharmacodynamics results show that the invented pharmaceutical formula can significantly reduce the level of inflammatory cytokines in the joint synovial fluid in arthritis rabbit model, and the formulated ointment can achieve better efficacy compared with Voltaren™ (diclofenac) ointment; therefore the proposed formula has promising clinical application.

1 . A pharmaceutical formula for the treatment and/or prevention of arthritis, which contain the following chemicals: a selenium-containing inorganic compound and a zinc-containing inorganic compound. 
     
     
         2 . The pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 1 , which is prepared by mixing a 1 to 5 part by weight of a zinc-containing inorganic compound and 1 to 5 part by weight of selenium-containing inorganic compound. 
     
     
         3 . The pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 2 , which is prepared by mixing 3 parts (by weight ratio) of a zinc-containing inorganic compound and 3 parts (by weight ratio) of a selenium-containing inorganic compound. 
     
     
         4 . The pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 1 , the zinc-containing inorganic compound is selected from zinc sulfate, zinc chloride or zinc acetate; the selenium-containing inorganic compound is sodium selenite. 
     
     
         5 . The pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 1 , the formulated product is prepared from each ingredient in designated weight ratio, along with pharmaceutically acceptable adjuvant ingredients. 
     
     
         6 . The pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 5 , is prepared for external and topical uses. 
     
     
         7 . The pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 6 , the formulated product include gels, creams, ointments or patches. 
     
     
         8 . A process for the preparation of a pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 1 , including the steps of: weighing the chemical compounds with specified weight ratio, adding pharmaceutically acceptable adjuvants to obtain the product. 
     
     
         9 . Application of the pharmaceutical formula as described in  claim 1  for the treatment and/or prevention of arthritis. 
     
     
         10 . The application as described in  claim 9 , the formulated drug is for the treatment and/or prevention for one or more of the following symptoms/diseases: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatoid-like arthritis, gouty arthritis, reactive arthritis, infection arthritis, traumatic arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and bursitis. 
     
     
         11 . As described in  claim 10 , the formula is to be applied as drug for the treatment and/or prevention of osteoarthritis.
