System and Method for Improving Paging
Abstract
A method for paging a first device by a second device includes sending, by the second device, a page message on a first path connecting the second device to the first device, and receiving, by the second device from the first device, a page response in response to the page message on a second path connecting the first device to the second device, wherein the first path and the second path are intentionally selected to be different in at least one of a number of hops in each path, radio access technology, cell or frequency carrier comprising each path, or width of beam pairs forming each path.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method for paging a first device, the method comprising:
transmitting, by a second device, a paging message to the first device that includes information identifying beams of the second device; receiving, by the second device, a paging response from the first device that includes information identifying a subset of the beams of the second device; and transmitting or receiving, by the second device, reference signals to or from the first device using beams in the subset of beams identified by the paging response.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the paging message is transmitted from the second device to the first device after the first device and the second device have achieved downlink synchronization.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the second device, location information of the first device prior to transmitting the paging message, the set of beams in the paging message being selected according to the location information of the first device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the second device, a paging channel configuration from the first device prior to transmitting the paging message, the paging message being transmitted according to the paging channel configuration.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the second device, a paging schedule of the first device prior to transmitting the paging message, the paging message being transmitted according to the paging schedule.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the paging schedule is in the time domain.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the paging schedule is in the frequency domain.
8 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the paging schedule is in the code domain.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the paging message is transmitted over a random access channel.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the paging message is transmitted over a resource allocated for paging the first device.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the paging message is transmitted at a scheduled wake-up time of the first device.
12 . A second device adapted to page a first device comprising:
one or more processors; and a computer readable storage medium storing programming for execution by the one or more processors, the programming including instructions to configure the second device to:
transmit a paging message to the first device that includes information identifying beams of the second device;
receive a paging response from the first device that includes information identifying a subset of the beams of the second device; and
transmit or receive reference signals to or from the first device using beams in the subset of beams identified by the paging response.
13 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the paging message is transmitted from the second device to the first device after the first device and the second device have achieved downlink synchronization.
14 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the programming further includes instructions to configure the second device to receive location information of the first device prior to transmitting the paging message, the set of beams in the paging message being selected according to the location information of the first device.
15 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the programming further includes instructions to configure the second device to receive a paging channel configuration from the first device prior to transmitting the paging message, the paging message being transmitted according to the paging channel configuration.
16 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the programming further includes instructions to configure the second device to receive a paging schedule of the first device prior to transmitting the paging message, the paging message being transmitted according to the paging schedule.
17 . The second device of claim 16 , wherein the paging schedule is in the time domain.
18 . The second device of claim 16 , wherein the paging schedule is in the frequency domain.
19 . The second device of claim 16 , wherein the paging schedule is in the code domain.
20 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the paging message is transmitted over a random access channel.
21 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the paging message is transmitted over a resource allocated for paging the first device.
22 . The second device of claim 12 , wherein the paging message is transmitted at a scheduled wake-up time of the first device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
