Abstract

Sharing video footage recorded by audio/video (A/V) recording and communication devices, such as video doorbells and security cameras. When an A/V recording and communication device records video footage of suspicious activity, or even criminal activity, a user viewing the footage may alert his or her neighbors by sharing the video. In various embodiments, the user may share the video with anyone of the user's choosing, including neighbors, friends, and family.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A computer program application of a client device associated with a first user of a network of users for receiving shared videos from audio/video recording and communication devices (A/V devices), the computer program application being embodied in code executable by a processor of the client device, which when executed causes the client device to:
receive a share notification indicating a shared video recorded by a camera of a second A/V device from among the A/V devices has been shared with the network of users, wherein the second A/V device is associated with a second user and located within a share distance defined by the first user; display, on a display of the client device, a neighborhood alert indicator that allows the first user to access the shared video; determine that the neighborhood alert indicator has been selected; in response to the neighborhood alert indicator being selected, transmit a playback request signal to at least one server; receive, from the at least one server, the shared video recorded by the camera of the second A/V device; and display, on a display of the client device, at least a portion of the shared video.

2 . The computer program application of claim 1 , wherein the share distance defined by the first user is an area around a location associated with the first user.

3 . The computer program application of claim 1 , wherein the first user is associated with a first A/V device and the share distance defined by the first user is an area around a location associated with the first A/V device.

4 . The computer program application of claim 1 , wherein the share notification includes an approximate location where the shared video was recorded, and the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, the approximate location of where the shared video was recorded.

5 . The computer program application of claim 1 , wherein the share notification includes a date and time when the shared video was recorded, and the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, the date and time of when the shared video was recorded.

6 . The computer program application of claim 1 , wherein the share notification includes a textual description of the shared video and the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, the textual description of the shared video.

7 . The computer program application of claim 6 , wherein the textual description is provided by the second user associated with the second A/V device.

8 . The computer program application of claim 6 , wherein the textual description is generated by the at least one server.

9 . The computer program application of claim 1 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, a neighborhood activity screen that includes at least one additional neighborhood alert indicator.

10 . The computer program application of claim 9 , wherein the at least one additional neighborhood alert indicator allows the first user to access videos recorded by a camera of a third A/V device from among the A/V devices that have been shared with the network of users.

11 . A computer program application of a client device associated with a first user of a network of users for receiving shared videos from an audio/video recording and communication device (A/V device) associated with at least one second user of the network of users, the computer program application being embodied in code executable by a processor of the client device, which when executed causes the client device to:
display, on a display of the client device, a neighborhood alert setting that allows the first user to enable a video share feature; display, on the display of the client device, a location associated with the first user; display, on the display of the client device, an adjustable alert area around the location associated with the first user, wherein the adjustable alert area contains the A/V device; determine that the adjustable alert area has been set; in response to the adjustable alert area being set, transmit an alert area adjustment signal to at least one server; receive, from the at least one server, a video recorded by a camera of the A/V device; and display, on a display of the client device, at least a portion of the video.

12 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the adjustable alert area around the location associated with the first user identifies an outer boundary of an area from which the first user will receive, from the at least one server, the video recorded by the camera of the A/V device.

13 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the neighborhood alert setting comprises a slider widget having an ON position for enabling the share feature and an OFF position for disabling the share feature.

14 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to receive, from the at least one server, a share notification indicating the video recorded by the camera of the A/V device has been shared with the network of users by the at least one second user.

15 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, a map comprising an indicator of the location associated with the first user.

16 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the location associated with the first user is a location associated with a first A/V device associated with the first user.

17 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, a slider widget for adjusting the adjustable alert area around the location associated with the first user.

18 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to display, on the display of the client device, a numeric value for adjusting the adjustable alert area around the location associated with the first user.

19 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to dynamically set the adjustable alert area around the location associated with the first user to include at least a minimum threshold number of other A/V devices.

20 . The computer program application of claim 11 , wherein the computer program application is embodied in further code that, when executed by the processor, further causes the client device to dynamically set the adjustable alert area around the location associated with the first user to include no more than a maximum threshold number of other A/V devices.
