Claims

Abstract

Selectively lockable holding arrangements for a surgical access assembly are disclosed. One holding arrangement includes a body portion, an engagement barrel and a retaining member configured as a hook at a distal end of the body portion. The engagement barrel is position on a proximal end of the body portion and is configured to be selectively rotated about the body portion when operatively connected to a surgical holding arrangement. A rotation brake is mounted on the body section. The rotation brake is selectively operable to lock the engagement barrel against rotation.

         18 . A selectively lockable holding assembly for a surgical access assembly, comprising:
 a body portion;   an engagement barrel;   a retaining member at a distal end of the body portion;   wherein the engagement barrel is positioned on a proximal end of the body portion and configured to be selectively rotated about the body portion; and   a rotation brake mounted on the engagement barrel, wherein the rotation brake is selectively operable to lock the engagement barrel against rotation with respect to the body portion.   
     
     
         19 . The holding assembly of  claim 18 , wherein the rotation brake includes a first member mounted on the engagement barrel, the first member having a first connection arrangement. 
     
     
         20 . The holding assembly of  claim 19 , wherein the rotation brake includes a second member having a second connection arrangement complementary to the first connection arrangement, the second connection arrangement and the first connection arrangement configured to engage with one another. 
     
     
         21 . The holding assembly of  claim 20 , wherein the first connection arrangement is disposed on an outer surface of the first member and the second connection arrangement is disposed on an inner surface of the second member. 
     
     
         22 . The holding assembly of  claim 21 , wherein the first connection arrangement and the second connection arrangement are threaded connection arrangements. 
     
     
         23 . The holding assembly of  claim 18 , wherein the rotation brake includes a channel extending therethrough, the channel being shaped to receive the engagement barrel. 
     
     
         24 . The holding assembly of  claim 18 , wherein the rotation brake locks the engagement barrel against rotation with respect to the body portion via a frictional force exerted on the body portion. 
     
     
         25 . The holding assembly of  claim 18 , wherein the rotation brake locks the engagement barrel against rotation with respect to the body portion via a compressive force exerted on the body portion. 
     
     
         26 . The holding assembly of  claim 18 , further comprising a ferrule fixedly connected to the body portion. 
     
     
         27 . The holding assembly of  claim 26 , wherein the ferrule is disposed closer to the distal end of the body portion than the rotation brake. 
     
     
         28 . A selectively lockable holding assembly for a surgical access assembly, comprising:
 a body portion;   an engagement barrel;   a retaining member at a distal end of the body portion;   wherein the engagement barrel is positioned on a proximal end of the body portion and configured to be selectively rotated about the body portion; and   a rotation brake having a first member mounted on the engagement barrel and a second member rotatably attached to the first member, wherein the rotation brake is selectively operable to lock the engagement barrel against rotation with respect to the body portion.   
     
     
         29 . The holding assembly of  claim 28 , wherein the first member of the rotation brake includes a first connection arrangement. 
     
     
         30 . The holding assembly of  claim 29 , wherein the second member of the rotation brake includes a second connection arrangement complementary to the first connection arrangement, the second connection arrangement and the first connection arrangement configured to engage with one another. 
     
     
         31 . The holding assembly of  claim 30 , wherein the first connection arrangement is disposed on an outer surface of the first member and the second connection arrangement is disposed on an inner surface of the second member. 
     
     
         32 . The holding assembly of  claim 31 , wherein the first connection arrangement and the second connection arrangement are threaded connection arrangements. 
     
     
         33 . The holding assembly of  claim 28 , wherein the first member of the rotation brake includes a channel extending therethrough, the channel being shaped to receive the body portion and the engagement barrel.

         37 . The holding assembly of  claim 36 , wherein the ferrule is disposed closer to the distal end of the body portion than the second member of the rotation brake.
