Abstract
A head mounted display (HMD) device worn by a user in a vehicular computing environment (VCE) can be augmented with video by measuring, within the VCE, a sight angle between a user's directional focus and a vehicle's directional orientation and augmenting, in response to a determination that the measured sight angle exceeds a threshold limit, an interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a central viewing area.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method for augmenting video to a head mounted display (HMD) device worn by a user in a vehicular computing environment (VCE), the method comprising:
measuring, within the VCE, a sight angle between a user's directional focus and a vehicle's directional orientation; augmenting, in response to a determination that a first measured sight angle exceeds a threshold limit, an interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a central viewing area; and augmenting, in response to a determination that a second measured sight angle is within the threshold limit, the interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a peripheral viewing area, wherein the peripheral viewing area extends the central viewing area.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
measuring, at a plurality of incremental time periods throughout vehicular operations, the user's directional focus.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
pausing, in response to a determination that an updated first measured sight angle is within the threshold limit, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the central viewing area.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
storing, during vehicular operations, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the central viewing area; and storing, during vehicular operations, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the peripheral viewing area.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the central viewing area is determined based on the vehicle's directional orientation.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein augmenting the interface of the HMD device is configured to occur after a delay.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user's directional focus is measured by a first compass attached to the HMD, and wherein the vehicle's directional orientation is measured by a second compass attached to the vehicle.
8 . A system for augmenting video to a head mounted display (HMD) device worn by a user in a vehicular computing environment (VCE), the system comprising:
a processor; and a computer-readable storage medium storing program instructions, which, when executed by the processor, are configured to cause the processor to perform a method comprising: measuring, within the VCE, a sight angle between a user's directional focus and a vehicle's directional orientation; augmenting, in response to a determination that a first measured sight angle exceeds a threshold limit, an interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a central viewing area; and augmenting, in response to a determination that a second measured sight angle is within the threshold limit, the interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a peripheral viewing area, wherein the peripheral viewing area extends the central viewing area.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:
measuring, at a plurality of incremental time periods throughout vehicular operations, the user's directional focus.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the further comprises:
pausing, in response to a determination that an updated first measured sight angle is within the threshold limit, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the central viewing area.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises:
storing, during vehicular operations, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the central viewing area; and storing, during vehicular operations, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the peripheral viewing area.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the central viewing area is determined based on the vehicle's directional orientation.
13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein augmenting the interface of the HMD device is configured to occur after a delay.
14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the user's directional focus is measured by a first compass attached to the HMD, and wherein the vehicle's directional orientation is measured by a second compass attached to the vehicle.
15 . A computer program product for augmenting video to a head mounted display (HMD) device worn by a user in a vehicular computing environment (VCE), the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith, the program instructions executable by a processor to cause the processor to perform a method comprising:
measuring, within the VCE, a sight angle between a user's directional focus and a vehicle's directional orientation; augmenting, in response to a determination that a first measured sight angle exceeds a threshold limit, an interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a central viewing area; and augmenting, in response to a determination that a second measured sight angle is within the threshold limit, the interface of the HMD device with a video feed of continuous live content captured within a peripheral viewing area, wherein the peripheral viewing area extends the central viewing area.
16 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
measuring, at a plurality of incremental time periods throughout vehicular operations, the user's directional focus.
17 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
pausing, in response to a determination that an updated first measured sight angle is within the threshold limit, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the central viewing area.
18 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the method further comprises:
storing, during vehicular operations, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the central viewing area; and storing, during vehicular operations, the video feed of continuous live content captured within the peripheral viewing area.
19 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the central viewing area is determined based on the vehicle's directional orientation.
20 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the user's directional focus is measured by a first compass attached to the HMD, and wherein the vehicle's directional orientation is measured by a second compass attached to the vehicle.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
